Hip dislocation is a common skeletal issue in children with cerebral palsy. Yet it is often silent. Hips going out of their socket have the potential to cause problems with activities of daily living like walking, running, sitting etc.
Around a third or more of children with cerebral palsy are likely to face this issue in their lifetime. Many a times when detected late, the hip gets damaged beyond repair.
In order to be able to detect hip displacement early, the child needs to be a part of hip surveillance program.
Earlier identification leads to simpler treatments and better outcomes.
It can also possibly decrease the need for a major surgery.
