Somewhere between “what do you want to be when you grow up?” and actually becoming it…
you realise this was never just a job. 😇

It’s the quiet wins, the small breakthroughs, the trust built over time.
It’s showing up, holding space, and being a part of a child’s journey in ways that truly matter.

Grateful that I get to choose this, every single day 🩷

Fine motor struggles aren’t always about the hands.
Sometimes, the real reason is hiding higher up.

If a child avoids colouring, presses too hard or too lightly, or gets tired quickly while writing, it could be a sign of reduced shoulder stability and arm strength.

These larger muscles act like a base. When they aren’t strong enough, the hands end up overcompensating, making tasks look messy, slow, or effortful.

That’s why therapy isn’t just table work.
We look at the whole body.

Activities like animal walks, wall pushes, climbing or even playing in a crawling position help build the strength and stability needed for better control at the fingertips.

When the body feels supported, the hands naturally follow.

Everyone’s saying AI is taking over jobs…

Us at Stepping Stones: when exactly? 😅

Because occupational therapy isn’t just a “task.”
It’s reading a child’s cues, adjusting in real time, celebrating the tiniest wins, and building trust that no machine can replicate.

From sensory play to motor planning, emotional regulation to functional independence…
every session is human, intuitive, and deeply personal.

And that’s something AI can’t replace.

If your child needs that kind of support, we’re here 🤍

When a child is overwhelmed, the instinct is often to repeat instructions louder or more firmly. 😭

But research shows that children’s brains respond far more to tone, rhythm, and emotional safety than to the actual words being spoken.

A slow, calm voice helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which supports regulation and emotional control.

Young children also rely heavily on co-regulation, meaning they use the adult’s nervous system to help regulate their own emotions.

So when you slow down your breathing and speech, their body often begins to calm down too.

Small shifts in how we communicate can make a big difference in how children respond.

If your child struggles with emotional regulation, meltdowns, or sensory overwhelm, professional guidance can help.

Every child learns differently. 🥰

Some children need movement to focus,
some need visual support,
and some need extra time and sensory input to process information.

When we shift our approach to match how a child’s brain learns best, we create an environment where they can truly thrive.

At Stepping Stones, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. We adapt our strategies to support each child’s unique learning style and developmental needs.

The other day in therapy, we had a child who simply refused to start the activity we had planned. Every suggestion was met with a firm “no.” The body was tense, eyes turned away, and nothing seemed to be working.

Instead of pushing the task, our therapist Isha paused. She sat down next to the child on the floor and gently joined the play the child had already started. No instructions. No pressure. Just quiet connection. 🎨

A few minutes later, something beautiful happened. The child looked at Isha, smiled… walked up to her and gave her a big hug. 🤍

Only after that moment of connection did the child feel ready to try the activity.

Because when a child feels safe, seen and understood, cooperation follows naturally.

Deep pressure is one of the most effective ways to help a child regulate their nervous system. 🥰

Simple activities like tight hugs, pillow sandwiches, foot massages or steamroller play can give the body the calming input it needs to feel safe and organised.

These activities provide proprioceptive input, which helps children manage sensory overload, improve focus, and feel more regulated. 🍀

If your child often feels overwhelmed, fidgety, or seeks a lot of movement, sensory-based strategies can make a big difference.

📩 DM us to understand how sensory integration therapy can support your child.

More than just “play” ✨

Our Sensory Integration Lab may look like a fun play space, but every swing, crash, climb, and movement has a purpose. These carefully designed activities help children process sensory information better, strengthen their bodies, improve attention, and build the foundation they need for everyday skills like learning, regulating emotions, and participating confidently in daily life.

Through sensory integration therapy, children learn how to organise the sensations coming from their bodies and the world around them. And when the brain processes sensory input more effectively, you often see improvements in focus, coordination, behaviour, and independence.

Because sometimes what looks like play… is actually powerful therapy at work.

If you feel your child may benefit from sensory integration therapy, our team would be happy to guide you.

Anger is a natural emotion. Every child feels it. What truly matters is how they learn to express and regulate it.

Here are 3 simple ways parents can support healthy anger expression:

🧠 Name the emotion
Instead of shutting the feeling down, acknowledge it.
“I can see you’re feeling really angry right now.”
When children feel understood, their brain begins to calm.

👣 Give anger a safe outlet
Emotions need movement.
Let them stamp their feet, squeeze a pillow, tear paper, or take big breaths.
The goal is expression without harm.

🤝 Model regulation
Children learn far more from what we do than what we say.
When they see you pause, breathe, and respond calmly, they begin to learn how to do the same.

Anger isn’t the problem.
Unmanaged anger is.
When children learn safe ways to express big feelings, they develop emotional resilience that stays with them for life.

📩 DM us to learn how occupational therapy can support your child’s emotional regulation.
