Perform Shraddha & Tarpan • Offer water, sesame seeds, rice, and food to ancestors as per family tradition. • Invite and feed Brahmins or needy people in their honor. 2. Offer Food to Cows, Dogs, and Crows • They are considered messengers of ancestors, and feeding them symbolizes offering food to Pitrs. 3. Practice Charity (Daan) • Donate food, clothes, and essentials to the poor and priests. 4. Observe Simplicity • Live with humility, avoid indulgence, and keep a devotional mindset. 5. Chant Mantras & Do Pitra Puja • Recite Gayatri Mantra, Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, or specific Pitru Stotra. 6. Maintain Cleanliness & Purity • Take regular baths, keep the home clean, and cook satvik (pure vegetarian) food. ⸻ ❌ What Not to Do: 1. Do Not Start New Ventures • Marriage, housewarming, new business, or major purchases are generally avoided. 2. Avoid Tamsik Food & Addictions • Non-veg, onion, garlic, alcohol, smoking, and excessive spices are discouraged. 3. No Cutting Nails, Hair, or Shaving • Considered inauspicious during this period. 4. Avoid Anger, Quarrels, or Gossip • Negative energy is believed to disturb the ancestors’ blessings. 5. Do Not Harm Animals or Birds • Since they represent ancestors’ forms, harming them is considered a dosha (sin). 6. No Auspicious Ceremonies or Celebrations • Birthdays, parties, or festivities are postponed until after Pitra Paksha.
