World Cancer Day – Panel Reflections

Cancer Care in the Young & the Elderly
Moderated by Prof. Akhil Kapoor, Head of Medical Oncology, Tata Memorial Centre, Varanasi

Today’s discussion reinforced one message: age should guide care, not limit it. Cancer treatment must be tailored to life stage, goals, and overall health.

Key Points
- Geriatric Oncology Clinics are essential to assess fitness, nutrition, cognition, and social support before therapy.
- Treat by biological age, not chronological age.
- For young patients, fertility counselling before treatment is critical.
- Genetic testing helps personalize therapy and protect families through early screening.
- Psychosocial and financial support must be part of routine care.

Take Home
Personalized, compassionate, and multidisciplinary care should be the standard for every cancer patient—young or elderly.

Grateful to the panelists for an insightful conversation toward better, age-sensitive oncology care.

🫁 From Shock to Strength | Every Breath Counts

A powerful glimpse from Every Breath Counts—our key highlight was a deeply moving patient panel discussion: “From Shock to Strength”.
By patients. For patients. 💙

Through honest stories, shared resilience, and lived experiences, this session truly reflected the spirit of patient-centred care and advocacy—where voices are heard, strength is shared, and hope is rebuilt together.

Because when patients lead the conversation, advocacy becomes real and care becomes compassionate.
Every voice matters. Every breath counts.

🧡 World Cancer Day | United by Unique

On this World Cancer Day, we stand together to put patients at the centre of cancer care. Patient advocacy goes beyond awareness—it amplifies lived experiences, strengthens support systems, and drives change toward equitable, compassionate care for all.

When patients and caregivers lead the conversation, awareness becomes action and voices become impact. Here, advocacy truly means by patients, for patients.
Because every voice matters and every breath counts.

A Vital Milestone for Patient Affordability in Union Budget 2026

It is heartening to see the reflect a deep commitment to by fully exempting 17 life-saving from basic customs duty. For patients across India, this policy shift is a major victory in the journey toward affordable treatment.

At (LCIF), we view this as a powerful validation of the ongoing dialogue between advocacy groups and policymakers. While this is a government decision, it is rewarding to see that the collective voice of our community—raised alongside our peer groups—is being heard.

Among the 17 drugs now made more accessible, several are critical for lung cancer patients, including:
ALK-Positive Lung Cancer: Ceritinib and Brigatinib
BRAF-Positive Lung Cancer: Dabrafenib and Trametinib
Advanced Immunotherapy: Ipilimumab, often used in combination with Nivolumab and Chemotherapy to improve survival outcomes.

This progress is a quiet reminder of why our matters. Knowing we have contributed a small but meaningful part in easing the financial burden on the families we serve gives us the strength to continue.
