I still remember one call from an IVF specialist. Her words were full of concern and hope:

"This patient has come from out of India. She has had three spontaneous conceptions—one ended in a biochemical pregnancy, and two in missed abortions where the baby’s heartbeat was never seen. She has now come for IVF, and I feel you must rule out alloimmune rejection of pregnancy."

“I would have never thought this possible,” the young mother whispered to me on the phone, holding her newborn daughter with teary eyes.
