5 Cast Care Tips for a Speedy Recovery
🩹 You've got a cast, now what? 🩹
Whether it's for a broken bone or post-surgery recovery, wearing a plaster is a crucial part of the healing process. Here are some essential cast care tips to help you on your journey to a full recovery:
1. Keep It Dry:
Moisture can weaken your cast. Always keep it dry. Cover it with a plastic bag or a cast cover before bathing or showering.
2. Elevate When Possible:
Elevating the injured limb can reduce swelling and improve circulation. Prop it up with pillows or a sling as instructed by your doctor.
3. Watch for Signs of Trouble:
Keep an eye out for any redness, swelling, or numbness below the cast. These can be signs of circulation problems or infection, and you should contact your doctor immediately if you notice them.
4. Avoid Putting Weight on It:
If your cast is on a leg or foot, avoid putting weight on it unless your doctor has specifically instructed you to do so. Crutches or a wheelchair may be necessary.
5. No DIY:
Do not attempt to cut, alter or insert any object or powder into your cast to scratch. If it gets too itchy, use a hairdryer to blow some air into it.
Remember, to follow the specific instructions given to you by your orthopedic surgeon. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to your doctor.
Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery! 💪🏥
