ACL Injuries: Why Women Are More Prone!
🏃‍♀️ Female athletes are 2-8 times more likely to suffer an ACL tear than men. But why?

🔬 Key Reasons:
🔹The hormones estrogen & relaxin affect ligament elasticity
🔹 Women have a wider pelvis & greater Q-angle, increasing knee stress
🔹 Women show more quadriceps dominance & weaker hamstrings, leading to instability

🦵 Prevention Strategies:
✅ Neuromuscular training to strengthen hamstrings & glutes
✅ Balance drills to improve proprioception
✅ Landing techniques to avoid inward knee collapse
Prevention is key to keeping athletes in the game!

5 Cast Care Tips for a Speedy Recovery
🩹 You've got a cast, now what? 🩹
Whether it's for a broken bone or post-surgery recovery, wearing a plaster is a crucial part of the healing process. Here are some essential cast care tips to help you on your journey to a full recovery:
1. Keep It Dry:
Moisture can weaken your cast. Always keep it dry. Cover it with a plastic bag or a cast cover before bathing or showering.
2. Elevate When Possible:
Elevating the injured limb can reduce swelling and improve circulation. Prop it up with pillows or a sling as instructed by your doctor.
3. Watch for Signs of Trouble:
Keep an eye out for any redness, swelling, or numbness below the cast. These can be signs of circulation problems or infection, and you should contact your doctor immediately if you notice them.
4. Avoid Putting Weight on It:
If your cast is on a leg or foot, avoid putting weight on it unless your doctor has specifically instructed you to do so. Crutches or a wheelchair may be necessary.
5. No DIY:
Do not attempt to cut, alter or insert any object or powder into your cast to scratch. If it gets too itchy, use a hairdryer to blow some air into it.

Remember, to follow the specific instructions given to you by your orthopedic surgeon. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to your doctor.
Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery! 💪🏥

One of the commonest questions I face every day in my orthopaedic practice……asked by women in the age of 40-45 years …… 🤔

Doc …. I AM 40 now !! Do I need to start tablets ??????

Let me explain :

40-45-50 is the age for menopause and certain hormonal changes which can weaken the bone ( ) & hence the need for extra in addition to diet .

However this deficiency DOES NOT occur in all women and less than 5% women will need to take extra Calcium (in form of supplements) other than diet .
Women with additional problems like obesity, Thyroid problems, early , and other medical problems are more like to require it .

Calcium deficiency would cause symptoms like muscle aches, early tiredness, etc , in which case please see a doctor and then start meds .

Please understand that Calcium supplements are not ALWAYS very safe !!!🤦🏻‍♀️
95% women DO NOT need to take any Calcium TABLETS.
MOST IMPORTANT DONT FORGET A REGULAR EXERCISE .💪🏾

Don’t Fall prey to irresponsible ads suggesting all women above 40 (some ads now even say 30 ) should take CALCIUM.😢😢

See your doctor if any doubts🌹
HOPE THIS HELPS 🙏🙏
