Day 6 of Breastfeeding Week ✨

7 Pumping Tips For Breastfeeding Mothers

There’s no need to rush to start pumping - In the first four weeks, prioritize breastfeeding to naturally build your milk supply. A pump is only needed if you're apart from your baby. Enjoy this bonding time and delay regular pumping until later.

Feel free to use other methods -If your baby can't feed directly from the breast, whether due to prematurity, special needs, or separation, begin double pumping breast milk as soon as possible after birth.

Time it right - For your first pumping session, pump for at least 15 minutes. Don’t worry if you collect little milk initially—consistent pumping will help stimulate increased milk production.

Make yourself comfortable - The best pumping position is one where you feel comfortable and relaxed, as this promotes the release of oxytocin, which aids the let-down reflex. Choose a private, comfortable spot with good support for your arms and back to avoid discomfort and distractions.

Take advantage of your milk flow - Many mothers don’t feel their let-down, so watch for milk jets. With a 2-Phase Expression pump, switch to the expression mode once milk flows to maximize collection, as the initial let-down provides about 36% of the milk.

Tailor the length of your pumping sessions - After 4-6 weeks; adjust your pumping time to save minutes. Pumping duration varies with let-down patterns, but each mother’s flow is consistent across sessions.

Don’t ignore discomfort- Pumping breast milk shouldn’t hurt. If you feel discomfort while expressing, or notice blisters or chafing on your ni**le or breast, try reducing the breast pump suction.

Day 4 of Breastfeeding Week! 💜✨

Laid-back breastfeeding - Laid-back breastfeeding, also known as biological nursing, is when you lie back in a comfortable semi-reclined position on a comfy sofa or bed.

Football hold - For the clutch (or football) hold, place a pillow beside you, cradle the baby in your arm with their neck supported by your hand, and tuck their feet and legs under your arm, keeping their side close to your body.

Side-lying position - Position your baby at your side with their hips close to yours and their nose level with your ni**le, Support their neck with your hand and gently guide them to latch.

Cross-cradle hold - The cross-cradle hold is a good position for breastfeeding newborns. It allows you to control the baby's head. With this hold, it can help to sit up straight in a comfortable chair with armrests.

Cradle hold - Place your baby on their left side across your lap, facing you at ni**le level. Rest their head on your right forearm and their back along your arm. Turn their tummy toward yours, and use your left hand to support your breast if needed.

Upright breastfeeding - Ensure the baby’s body is aligned straight, not twisted. For a deeper latch, support the baby’s shoulders with your hand rather than their head.

Double-cradle hold - One baby is in football hold while the other is in the cradle position. Double Cradle Babies are both in cradle position; one may be lying on top of the other.💜✨

Day 3 of Breastfeeding Week! 💜✨

Four statistics related Breastfeeding Globally

Breastfeeding provides significant health benefits, including up to 72% reduced risk of respiratory infections and diarrhea, and lower incidence of obesity and diabetes later in life. It supports emotional bonding and optimal development. However, challenges like low milk supply and sore ni***es persist, emphasizing the need for better support and education.

Day 2 of Breastfeeding Week 💜✨
And Here is 7 Facts You must know about Breastfeeding Mother! 😌

Breastfeeding mothers have increased nutritional and hydration needs to support milk production and their own health. The act of breastfeeding triggers hormonal changes, releasing oxytocin to enhance bonding. It also burns extra calories, aiding in postpartum weight loss. Despite its benefits, breastfeeding can be physically demanding and affect mental well-being, requiring adequate rest and support. Milk supply is maintained through frequent breastfeeding or pumping, highlighting the demand-driven nature of milk production.

What is prolactin - Prolactin is a hormone required for milk production. Its levels rise throughout pregnancy and peak immediately after birth, triggering lactation. To sustain high prolactin levels, it is vital to breastfeed or pump frequently, particularly in the first few weeks after giving birth.

Prolactin levels at nighttime - Nighttime breastfeeding is especially useful because prolactin levels are naturally higher at night. When mothers are sleep deprived, they may skip or postpone these sessions, resulting in lower prolactin levels and perhaps decreased milk production.

Impact on sleep deprivation on prolactin - Reduced Prolactin Response: Sleep deprivation can impair the body's ability to manufacture prolactin efficiently. According to studies, a lack of sleep reduces the frequency and amplitude of prolactin surges, which are required to sustain milk production.

Altered circadian rhythm - Sleep deprivation alters the body's circadian rhythm, which may impact hormonal balance, including prolactin secretion. Consistently disturbed sleep patterns may lead to a decrease in overall milk production over time.

Promotes emotional well – being but contributes to tiredness - Oxytocin promotes a strong relationship between mother and child and lowers anxiety, it also has a sedative effect that can leave moms feeling sleepy or less alert all the time. This is particularly true while the body is regulating the hormones in the early postpartum phase.

Interferes with Sleep Architecture: There are various stages of sleep, such as light, deep, and REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Lighter sleep stages are sometimes encouraged by oxytocin, however they might not be as restorative as deeper sleep stages. Because of this, mothers can not feel completely rested when they wake up, even if they are able to fall asleep fast.

Potential impact on daytime functioning : Mothers' ability to function throughout the day can be impacted by the combination of frequent night awakenings and oxytocin-induced tiredness. Decreased sleep amount and quality can cause exhaustion, daytime sleepiness, and problems regulating mood and attention.

Digestibility of breast milk : Breast milk is more easily digestible than formula, allowing for faster digestion and potentially more frequent feedings. Because newborns and young infants have small stomachs and breast milk digests quickly, they frequently wake up every 2-3 hours to eat.

Frequent night feedings : Breastfed newborns may wake up more frequently at night than formula-fed babies due to their frequent feeding needs. This frequent waking is a natural element of newborn development and ensures that babies get enough nutrition to grow. Babies aged 0-3 months typically wake and eat at night in the same way they do during the day. By 3 months of age, many newborns have established a pattern of extended wake times during the day and longer sleeps at night. This extended, 4-5-hour uninterrupted sleep at night can be a pleasant change for sleep-deprived parents.

Growth spurts : Babies develop the most rapidly throughout their first year, and much of it occurs in the form of growth spurts, which are short, intense bursts of growth. During the first 12 months, newborns typically triple their body weight and grow an average of 10 inches in length. Prior to a growth spurt, your baby's weight may gradually increase. After a growth spurt, you may observe it rise. So it's not your imagination—your baby truly outgrew all of his newborn clothing overnight . During growth spurts, which occur at different periods of infancy, babies may require more frequent feedings, including at night. These spurts frequently result in increased hunger and may cause additional midnight awakenings.

Nap when the baby naps - When the infant is asleep during the day, try to get some more sleep. A quick nap will help make up for some of the sleep deficit that nocturnal feedings have caused.

Create a sleep friendly environment - When the infant is asleep during the day, try to get some more sleep. A quick nap will help make up for some of the sleep deficit that nocturnal feedings have caused.

Establish a routine - Establish a regular bedtime routine to let your body know when it's time to shut down. Taking a warm bath or reading are two examples of peaceful pastimes.

Share nighttime duties - As much as feasible, divide up nocturnal duties with a spouse or family member. This can help free up some of your evening feeding responsibilities so you can sleep in more.

Practice safe co – sleeping - Adhere to safe sleep practices if you decide to co-sleep so that you and your child are both secure and comfortable. As a result, feedings at night may be less stressful and easy.

Stay hydrated and sleep well - Maintaining a healthy diet and staying well hydrated are crucial for general wellbeing and can enhance the quality of sleep. Avert coffee and large meals right before bed.

Seek support – Consult lactation consultants, support groups, or medical professionals for assistance with difficulties related to nursing. Early problem solving can facilitate a less stressful and more efficient approach.

What is oxytocin
The brain produces the hormone oxytocin, which the pituitary gland then releases into the bloodstream. Its primary purpose is to aid in childbirth, which explains why it's also referred to as the "love hormone" or "love drug." Similar to endorphins and serotonin, oxytocin is a kind of hormone that your body produces to encourage happy emotions.

Positive role of oxytocin in breastfeeding
• The "milk ejection reflex" or the "letdown reflex" are other terms for the oxytocin response. Prolactin production is slower than that of oxytocin. It facilitates the baby's easy access to the milk by causing the breastmilk to flow during the present feeding. Both when the baby is nursing and when the mother anticipates a feeding, oxytocin begins to function.
• It strengthens the emotional relationship between a mother and her child, increasing the latter's sense of attachment, love, and connection. That's why oxytocin is frequently referred to as "the love hormone."
