Banerjee has explored the landscape of theatre, dance, media and therapy. Her educational background includes a Bachelors in Psychology Honours from Delhi University and a Diploma in Journalism from NDTV Media Institute. She is the first native of india to receive a Master's degree in Drama Therapy from New York University (2016). She employs techniques of theatre, art, music and dance in the process of mental healthcare with people across ages and abilities. She has worked with patients diagnosed with acute forms of psychosis and chemical dependency in New York based mental health hospitals namely Lenox Hill Hospital, Kings County Hospital and Brookdale Hospital. Currently she is collaborating with Parikrama (Mumbai) to work with geriatric populations across the state of Maharastra, India. She also does 1:1 sessions with adults experiencing depression and post-traumatic stress responses. Apart from therapy, Ms. Banerjee also has a background in theatre and dance. She has trained with veteran actor Anupam Kher and British Council director Phyllis Bose. Her theatrical debut was under the directorship of theatre maestro and film writer Ranjit Kapoor. Ms. Banerjee has also acted for prolific film directors Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and Shoojit Sarkar. She has trained with dancing legends Shiamak Davar and Fernando Aguilera as well. Currently she trains with Ashley Lobo's The Danceworx in Jazz and Contemporary. She was a student-director of the therapeutic theatre piece, This Ability for the Disability As Performance Series at NYU in 2016. Banerjee hopes Doctor Drama will be a forum that celebrates the work and impact of Creative Arts therapy in India and furthers the conversation about self-care for individuals across the world.
