As a nutritionist, i have realised that spices are one thing that are consumed on a very daily basis and thus it can hamper your health if they have been adulterated!!!
I personally make these spices at home and so are made under hygienic conditions. They are sundried for few days and then pounded so that they stay good for the whole year!!

All the species have been *pounded* and not grounded!!! When the spices are pounded, they have the following advantages
1. They release essential oils and aromas whereas grinding them would destroy it
2. Spices don’t just make your food tasty, they are a rich source of agents that aid in increasing immunity. However, a majority of these nutrients are lost when grounded
3. All the spices are pounded with iron rods. Wooden rods, because they are porous, ends up absorbing alot of oil from the species which is not the case with iron rods

*Kashayam*
1. Kashayam is made up of 15 ingredients!!! Naming a few - kesar, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg etc .
2. They help in reducing acidity levels
3. They help in increasing your immunity as well
4. Can be had in water, milk or tea.

*Kashmiri chilly powder*
1. Salt is added as a preservative for chilli powders which increases the sodium levels. I add about 100ml sunflower oil per kg chilli powder as a preservative. This enriches the color as well as the taste
2. We tend to have kidney stones and acidity issues due to the chilly seeds and using the wrong kinds of chillies. The kashmiri chilly powder that i make is deseeded and thus of a very good quality

*Selam turmeric powder*
1. Selam haldi is one of the haldi which has the highest amount of curcumin, which helps increasing your immunity.
2. 1% of pepper is added to increase the absorption of curcumin in the body.

*Coriander powder*
1. Coriander powder can often be adulterated with sawdust and dung which can cause severe harm to our health!

*Garam masala*
1. My garam masala does not have any chilli powder added to it and thus it gives a very rich taste of other species

*Sambar masala*
1. Kashmiri chillies have been used in making the sambhar masala and thus the masala is not spicy but gives a very rich color taste of other spices

*Black salt*
1. Black salt or pink Himalayan salt is a better choice over table white salt as they have minerals like potassium and magnesium which the table salt lacks.
2. Both black and pink salt are very low on sodium levels but black salt has a more strong taste of pink salt and thus has to be used in lesser amounts thus obviously reducing the sodium levels more.

Mariya was very sincere with her plan. I was not doing any menu planning for her since I hadn’t thought of that option at the time. But it would be very rare that I would have to correct her anywhere.
She was hesitant in starting with the plan. She knew she had to reduce the fat but wasn’t sure if doing the diet with me was the right way. But once she started with the diet, she has been so happy that she has been referring others as well.
It was a simple plan for her with our regular foods twice a day. I had to guide her with the right portion sizes and choices of foods. That’s where the magic worked. What brings the amazing changes is that she was really very consistent with her diet. She wouldn’t get bored of what she was doing.
As a part of exercise, she only included a 30-45 mins of brisk walking and gradually started including strength training.

It was so much fun to work with Ranjeet! I was doing a menu plan for him on a weekly basis. Which means I would be more specific in terms of what to include in the meal for eg oats for breakfast, an apple for mid morning, wheat roti paneer masala and curd for lunch, masala moong for the evening and bean sandwich for dinner. He and his wife were foodies and she enjoyed making all the meals as per my recipes. They enjoyed the recipe so much that they would even offer them to the guests and the guests would enjoy it too. The best part about Ranjeet was that he was open to everything that I would tell him to do. Never gave me conditions – give me a diet which does not have so and so food or I will not be able do this etc. He was super motivated and open to atleast trying out what I tell him to do. This was the reason he got such amazing results very consistently. Its been about 4 months since we last connected and he is still at the same weight and inches since then.

From XL to M

It’s always said ghar ki murgi dal barabar! But Raj took me very seriously as a nutritionist! Regular follow ups and alot of consistency in many aspects! The progress can be slow, can have ups and downs but if you are consistent in following it, the graph definitely sees it’s way down! We all have our weaknesses, Raj’s is sweets and outside food. Staying alone, he would have a very high tendency of getting busy with work and thus forgetting to make food or sometimes being lazy at making it or many a times not having the right grocery at home to make the food! We worked on each of these aspects one at a time! We Kept working on it till he reached almost 80% consistency . Today as well after 4 months, he does fail at managing to control eating outside food and sweets but he definitely has much more better self control than before! Starting with a whole new diet plan can be difficult. Adapting to alot of changes at the same time cannot always be a success, we can fail at it but you need not take a failure to your heart and totally give up on it . Instead work on the diet with a new approach! Pick few habits and get consistent with it and i am sure you are going to find it much more easy to adapt to the diet and sustain it.

Remember consistency is the key!!!

Focus over quality than quantity.

Instead of putting so much effort and time in doing workouts twice a day, workout once a day but aim at increasing the intensity thus improving the quality of the workout.

When you do any form of workout, there is a lot of muscle breakdown that happens, to repair this muscle breakdown, your body needs good amount of rest.

If you dont give it the rest, the muscle recovery wouldn't be very good which would lead to poor muscle strength thus poor workout and make you prone injuries.

Yes consistency beats all!!!

Pick any 1 habit that you find easy to adapt and consistently follow it.

Yes there are going to be supplements , diet programs, exercise regime etc that would aid your fat loss journey but by the end of the day, if you can’t stick to anything for long term, it’s not going to work.

Slow and steady wins the game! No quick fixes, just consistently doing what works for you and seeing results beats all!
