PIE - Platform for Intelligent Edutainment

PIE - Platform for Intelligent Edutainment Platform for Intelligent Edutainment (PIE) was created by and for Bombay’s medical fraternity. PIE is an acronym for Platform for Intelligent Edutainment. Sorry!

A labour of love initiated by 6 Bombaywallahs from the fields of medicine, finance, and theatre, it curates and organises cultural and literary events across the city

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is QED? QED is an acronym for Quizzing Entirely for Doctors. QED, India's first juxtamed quiz. Juxtamed here means a general knowledge quiz juxtaposed with medicine. QED welcomes medical as well

as non medical participants

2. When and where is QED being held? The venue is St. Andrew’s Auditorium, Bandra (W). The event will be conducted over 2 Sundays, 2nd and 16th October 2022. The time will be from 9 am to 1 pm on each Sunday.

3. Why 2 Sundays? Qualifying round Sunday 1st March
Finale´- 8th March

4. Who can participate? Medics and non-medics will register and participate in the Qualifier Round in teams of two. Teams must be comprised of either two medics or two non-medics - not one each.

'Medics' include doctors, medical students, dentists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and vets. 'Non-medic' quizzers in the past have included lawyers, chartered accountants, teachers, artists, designers and numerous diverse fields!

5. Can spouses form a team? Of course, provided they both are doctors. In our view, an ideal team would comprise of 1 family physician and 1 consultant. Another good combination would be of 2 doctors belonging to separate generations so that their combined general knowledge spans several decades. You, however, are free to try out combinations of your choice. If you can’t find a team member, please contact us and we shall become matchmakers!

6. Who is organizing QED? QED is the brainchild of Dr. Tushar Shah, a consulting physician. He would love to be recognized as an upstanding clinician but he always lands up being identified as a stand-up comedian seen occasionally on the idiot box. It has been his fervent desire to bring quizzing to the world of medicine, an exercise hitherto ignored in this community of intellectuals. The technical aspect of the quiz is being managed by Dr. Kruti Dhirwani & Dr. Suraj Dhirwani of TechnoMedikss. The event is being powered by Dr. Sharmeela Kazerouni & her team from Silly Point Productions.

7. Will participants get CME credit points? QED is like your neighbourhood ‘baniya’, no credit!

8. What kind of quiz questions should we expect? The questions have been formulated keeping in mind the following –
a. The quiz should not look like a college exam. b. Majority of the questions are ‘juxta-medical’ i.e. general knowledge questions based on medicine. c. Most of the questions will be accompanied by visuals - either still images or videos. d. We hope not only to test your knowledge but also to inform and entertain.

9. What is the format of the quiz? The 1st & 2nd qualifying rounds will have teams seated in the auditorium. The quiz master will be on stage alongside a large screen. The questions will be presented by the quiz master and the participants will write down the answers on answer sheets provided to them at the onset. There will be a brief intermission halfway in the qualifying rounds. The 2 semi-finals and the grand final will have 4 teams each seated on the stage of the auditorium. On this day we will welcome a non-participating audience seated in the auditorium.

10. Are there prizes for winners or are we expected to make do withparticipation certificates and wooden trophies? Don’t be cruel. Of course there are prizes. We will be giving away prizes worth about Rs. 1.5 lacs. There are pulse oximeters, Littmann stethoscopes, electronic stethoscopes, top-of-the-line portable electronic devices and medical textbooks to be won.

11. We think we are interested. How do we enroll for the quiz? Call on 9619030050 or 9820067487 (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for enrollment or for further queries. Entries are open till the event date. We request you to enroll early to help us prepare better. Our email id is qedevent@gmail.com
Our FB page is www.facebook.com/QEDtheMedicalQuiz

12. Lastly, is there any entry fee? No! We will be honoured if you enroll.
