Is IVF painful? Let’s answer this clearly.
Many patients worry about pain — and that’s completely understandable. Here’s what you should know:
• Injections: Most people describe fertility injections as mildly uncomfortable, not intensely painful. Needles are thin and nursing teams teach techniques to reduce soreness.
• Egg retrieval: This is normally done under sedation or anaesthesia, so the procedure itself is usually painless — you may feel mild cramping or lower tummy discomfort afterward.
Embryo transfer: Typically quick and not painful for most women; some feel mild cramping similar to a Pap smear.
Serious risks (rare): Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) is an uncommon but important complication that can cause abdominal pain and swelling — clinics monitor for it closely and take steps to prevent it.
At Womb IVF, we personalise protocols, monitor you closely, and support both physical comfort and emotional wellbeing — so risks are minimized and you’re never facing this alone. For a personalised discussion about what to expect in your case, book a consultation. 📞
