Spiritual progress can be measured by a number things; how much of the presence of Lord Shiva you can feel during or after meditation, what you can endure on the spiritual path without giving up, loving Lord Shiva and others unconditionally, making knowing Lord Shiva the centre of your life, putting you spiritual practice first above all other things, accepting whatever Lord Shiva gives you in life, how you react to others & life when difficult situations come along, the desire to meditate, and whether you can continue your spiritual practice and develop your relationship with God each day even when you don’t experience any results. When you have stood the test of time with Lord Shiva, showing Him that you will seek Him no matter what, then He will know that you have made some real spiritual progress. When you make choices that are based on spiritual qualities such as honesty or humility, you will be progressing spiritually. When you make choices based on unspiritual qualities, such as greed, pride or selfishness, then this will hold you back from progressing spiritually.

Lord Shiva and Guru will sometimes put you in situations so you have the opportunity to make the right choices and progress spiritually. Always keep a watch on what is coming to you in life and how you react to it. Maya, the opposing force to God in life, will try to trick you to make you think making the wrong, unspiritual choices are the right thing to do, so always be wary of this and choose what ‘feels right’ to you. Lord Shiva may even put you in a very difficult situation, financially for example, to see if you will break and become dishonest in your dealings. If you just stick to your spiritual ideals all will work out ok in the end even if things seem hopeless at the time. Remember life is a testing ground for you to attain Shiva Consciousness and liberation, so make acting in a spiritual way the main concern for you over what you may or may not receive or experience in this world. You have come here for a short time to attain something eternal, so make this of the highest importance to you so can be forever free in Shiva Consciousness at the end of your life.

If you analyse your life, you will see that you are only ever happy when you are fulfilling a certain desire. Once you have fulfilled it, the happiness fades away and then you have to fulfill another desire to be happy again. If you put your happiness on having another person in your life, initially the idea and experience of it will make you happy for some time. However, once that person stops acting in the way that you want them to, that happiness is gone or at the most it is up and down. Your career may bring you happiness in the beginning, but you will find that ultimately it will bring you satisfaction rather than true happiness. Finding happiness from this world requires a constant effort of fulfilling desires, that is why people are always doing one thing or another to feel happy. New clothes, new phone, new activities, new friends, impressing others, accumulating money, food and drink, the list goes on and on.

So, what in this world can give you lasting happiness? The answer is nothing can. You have come to this world to discover this and then ask yourself the question ‘what can give me lasting happiness?’ The answer to this question is that lasting happiness can only be found in Lord Shiva, your higher Self, which is ever-new Joy and Bliss. Lord Shiva is beyond the illusion of time and space of this world and so was not created and thus cannot end. Lord Shiva (God) is therefore the only true Constant that can be known in your life. Fortunately, Lord Shiva is the very thing (happiness) that you are continually seeking, so get to know Him and you will always be happy and peaceful. Always keep this in your mind and you will be motivated to make the effort to know Lord Shiva. Once you have found the Bliss of Lord Shiva through your sadhana, no one can take that the awareness of Him away from you. All else that is accumulated in this world has to be left behind once you leave here, except your awareness of Lord Shiva within you. The wise therefore seek God above all other things.

All human beings make mistakes. We were not born with the innate knowledge of how to do everything in the world, so a lot of life is trial and error, for both the big and small things in life, such as parenting, work and navigating the spiritual path. Making mistakes are a natural part of life that you should not feel bad about as everyone makes them. The thing to focus on when you make a mistake is to resolve the situation as best you can, and learn from it, so you don’t make the same mistake again. The thing not to focus on when you make a mistake is feeling negative about yourself. Never be hard on yourself for your mistakes, even if others are hard towards you. Be kind to yourself and move past the mistake that you have made without self-judgement or self-criticism. Even if you make the greatest mistake, it is important that you do not become negative towards yourself as it will make it harder for you to rectify what you have done and move past it. You must stay confident, strong and happy no matter what mistakes that you make in life.

If you a persecuted by others for the mistakes that you have made, once you have done everything that you can to rectify the situation, ignore the people who are still persecuting you and instead, always remember that Lord Shiva and Gurus love and accept you no matter what mistakes you have made. When you have made a mistake, Lord Shiva and Gurus want you to pick yourself up straight away, rectify it and learn from it, and then put it out of your mind and carry on with life happily.

It is the same God that exists in the Hindu temples, Sikh gurudwaras, Christian churches and the many other spiritual places in the world. Venerate Him with love and devotion in each of His many temples and churches. Although you will find that God’s appearance is different in the various temples and churches, it is the same God that is behind all of them.

When you expect something to happen and it does not, you can feel let down, disappointed and unhappy. Someone people can get upset or even angry. Expectations can be for the smallest things in life, such as how an evening with a friend will turn out, or for a big thing such as having an expectation of how your husband / wife will be. Life will often not turn out the way that you expect it to, both with people and the things that come to you in life. It is therefore better not to expect things in life to happen a certain way, but instead just be open to how things come to you, accept them as they are and appreciate them for what they are. Expectation causes so many problems in life and makes relationships and living life very difficult. Start practicing not expecting anything from anyone or from life until it becomes second nature. This however doesn’t mean that you stop caring about life, you are just looking at it differently in a way that will work much better for you and everyone around you.

When things don’t happen the way that you want them to, you can do your best to make the necessary changes where possible so it happens differently in the future, but without future expectation or attachment. By not expecting things from life, you will be a much happier person and your relationships with others will be much more harmonious. It is important not to have expectation about Lord Shiva and Gurus, but rather have surrender, faith and acceptance towards them, knowing that they will give you everything that you need at the right time.

A good disciple is one who holds Lord Shiva as the highest in their life, whilst at the same time taking care of the material life that He has given them. He/she performs their daily meditation and spiritual practices regardless of whether they feel like doing it or not. A good disciple accepts what comes to them in life from Lord Shiva with complete trust. A good disciple never gives up their search for Lord Shiva even when they are faced with the worst difficulties. A good disciple lives to know Lord Shiva, and does their utmost to put their Guru’s teachings into practice and becomes a living example of them. A good disciple is fully devoted to their Guru, as the one who has been sent to awaken them to Shiva Consciousness and attain liberation.

07/02/2026

Be grateful to Lord Shiva for all of the beautiful people and nice things that He has given to you, and even more so, be grateful for His grace and presence in your life. Be grateful for all of the difficulties that Lord Shiva has given to you in your life, as difficulties give you a chance to grow from them, and develop spiritual qualities. Gratitude for everything that you have in your life will undoubtedly make you happier. It is easy to take what you have in life for granted, so practicing gratitude will remind you of the beautiful people and good things that you have in your life. When you appreciate people in your life, you will not take them for granted and you will be inclined to treat them even better than you already do. It is easy to forget what you have in your life and always look for more, focusing on what you don’t have and becoming unhappy about it. Instead keep in mind what you do have and show people that you appreciate them and are grateful to have them in your life. When you keep in mind what you do have, not what you don’t, you will feel rich and much happier. Much about life is determined by your perspective of it, and gratitude brings you a wonderful perspective and feeling in your heart. Lord Shiva is very happy when you are grateful for what He has given you and particularly for His gift of life to you. When you are grateful for your life itself, you will not waste it or look upon it negatively, but instead live it fully with appreciation and happiness.

As a parent you have the opportunity to create an environment in which your children may thrive spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. You can teach them and involve them in your spiritual life, and make it a normal part of daily life. so they grow up with a strong spiritual foundation. At a certain age they can then choose to carrying on with that way of life or not, but at least you have given them the great benefit of a spiritual upbringing.

The way parents act directly influences how their children grow up. If you are calm, loving, kind, accepting and patient with your children and your spouse, and you do not lose your temper if you have to discipline your children, and you help your children to nurture their inner intelligence, instead of only telling them what to do or think, they will grow up as capable, balanced and happy individuals. On the contrary, if you shout at or beat your children and spouse, this will instill fear in your children and at the same time teach them that this is the appropriate way to deal with life. Living in this environment will make your children grow up in a way that will not make them into balanced and happy individuals, but instead become mentally and emotionally unstable, and this instability will negatively effect all of their relationships, their work life and their relationship with themselves. This is evident in some adults of the adults that you see around you. Why is it that some people are easy to get on with and happy, but others are very difficult to get along with and not very happy? The latter may, for example, get offended very easily, have a bad temper, act like nothing is good enough or are violent? It is because their ‘software’ has been corrupted as they were growing up by how they were raised by their parents. Teach your children how to be good human beings chiefly by your example and then by your loving guidance.

Your true nature is Divine, unconditional Love, and it is sitting in your heart waiting to be discovered and expressed. A lot of the time, instead of expressing unconditional love, you get caught up in the ‘transactional’ way of the world, in which people love others and themselves according to what they do or don’t do. This happens when you are centered in your mind and not in your heart. When you are centered in your mind, you will judge, expect, get hurt, offended and thus give or withhold your love according to how your mind perceives others or yourself. When you are centered in your heart, there is no question of what you or others are doing, as your heart will just love without reason. If you wish to know Lord Shiva, who is pure, unconditional love, you must become like Him and center yourself in your heart and love unconditionally. Love is the most beautiful force in existence, that flows continuously when given the opportunity. When you live in your heart, you are living in Lord Shiva’s love, and when this happens your life will become deeply fulfilling and holy. You will at last be free from the worldly, transactional way of loving, which brings nothing but sorrow to your heart and turmoil to your mind.

26/01/2026

Desires are what keep you on earth and are what keep you returning to earth. Everyone is constantly fulfilling desires. Once you have fulfilled one desire, you move onto the next one, so you see the process of fulfilling desires on earth is endless. Without desires you would not be able to be here on earth. So why do people have so many desires? It is because when they fulfill each desire, they attain happiness. However, even though a person experiences a state of happiness upon fulfilling a desire, that happiness is only temporary as everything becomes stale after some time. Knowing this, the wise search for permanent happiness in Lord Shiva and do not depend upon fulfilling desires to attain happiness.

Another aspect of desires is that they have the effect of causing unhappiness when they are unfulfilled. When a person has a desire but does not fulfill it, he / she generally becomes unhappy as a result of it. If they are attached to that desire then they can be unhappy for a long period of time until they let go of the need to fulfill that desire. This is why the Buddha emphasised that attachment to desires is the cause of unhappiness. So how should we handle desires on the spiritual path? It is natural to have a certain amount of desires in life such as the desire to have a career, have a relationship, have a family, have a social life etc, so we shouldn’t avoid desires. The way to handle desires is to not be attached to them and to limit the amount that we have so we are not spending all of our time chasing them. When we leave earth, if we have unfulfilled desires, we have to return to earth to fulfill them. It is therefore wise to limit the amount of desires that you have and make sure that they are achievable.

There is one desire that is good to be attached to and that is the desire to know Lord Shiva. If you make knowing Lord Shiva your supreme desire before all other things in life, you will be successful in knowing Him, without being constantly sidetracked by material desires. As knowing Lord Shiva is the only way that you will obtain permanent happiness, it is wise to cultivate this desire above all others.

Placing others people’s needs before your own creates unselfishness and feeling for others, and it will open your heart. When you are not concerned about having your needs met first, and your mind isn’t focused on what other people are doing for you, you will live in a greater state of peace, harmony and inner equilibrium, which is the necessary platform to become absorbed in the presence of Lord Shiva.
