With all the children going back to physical school there is an immense revelation of silent Myopia in children who have not needed to recognise objects at a distance due to home schooling. There is a surge of children being detected with short sighted ness (Myopia) after teachers are recognising that the kids can’t see what’s written on the board. Myopia has become the epidemic in this pandemic due to increased near viewing and reduced outdoor activities. A routine eye check is recommended for all kids who have not been checked in the last 6 months.

Myopia (Near sightedness) in children has practically become an epidemic during the pandemic.
Increased near viewing like online schooling, online entertainment and being indoors are the culprits.
Screen time hygiene, adequate outdoor activities and a regular eye check is the absolute need of the hour.

Spoke to a support group of Families with a family member suffering from a rare Neurodegenerarive Disorder called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. These patients have a progressive problem of Walking, speaking, cognition and visual symptoms. It was organised by a Niti Vaidya and associated with CurePSP worldwide. It was a humbling experience to see how these families are coping and how much they are doing and how much more needs to be done.

In these trying times where it is difficult to get a physical consult for your child’s eyes we are offering Video consults for urgent problems.
Although there are clear limitations of this modality in Ophthalmology, it can be used to treat some urgent problems and it is also a way of deciding whether the problem is an emergency and warrants an early physical eye test.
Please message on 9833190603 for a video Consult and we will line it up for you.

Myth: Eye yoga and eye exercises help not only help in reducing power of the eyes but also prevent normal children from getting glasses.
Fact: There is an eye drop that can help in slowing the increase in minus power (Myopia) in a select group of children with Myopia. No form of exercise affects the power of the eyes.
Ask your pediatric Ophthalmologist about this new treatment option.
