Dr. Prasad Raj Dandekar

Dr. Prasad Raj Dandekar heads the department of Radiation Oncology at Sir H. Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai. The department of Radiation Oncology at Sir H. Reliance Foundation Hospital is equipped with state of the art equipment such as most advanced Linear Accelerator, True Beam by Varian USA, advanced Brachytherapy unit Gammamed Plus iX, ARIA and ECLIPSE treatment planning system. Prior to joining Sir H. Reliance Foundation Hospital, he was a full time consultant at International Oncology Services Private Limited (IOSPL) at Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, Mumbai. He was a pioneer in bringing the best of new technology to his patients and he started the Rapid Arc Radiotherapy program at IOSPL, which was first in Western India. He has rich experience of using Precision Radiotherapy techniques such as Rapid Arc, IGRT, IMRT which significantly increase the treatment accuracy while reducing side effects. Prior to joining IOSPL in Mumbai, he was Chief Radiation Oncologist at the Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre, Narayana Hrudayalaya Health City, Bangalore. He pioneered the VMAT (Equivalent of Rapid Arc) Radiotherapy Technique at Narayana Hrudayalaya and was the first one in South India to do so. He was a Principle investigator for multicentre international trial in head and cancer in coalition with Singapore Cancer Centre. He underwent training in Stereotactic Radiotherapy at the Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA during this period. Prior to that he was invited to join the prestigious Head and Neck Cancer Fellowship at the Royal Marsden NHS Trust, London, which is the largest cancer centre in the Europe and also the first cancer centre in the world. There he worked for 2 years with the best of talent in the field of Oncology and was involved in designing and successfully running various clinical protocols. His primary training in Oncology was at the apex cancer institute of India, Tata Memorial Hospital for 5 years where he pursued his MD and DNB. He was involved in various clinical trials and research while undergoing training. He has also served as Lecturer at Department of Oncology at Cama and Albless Hospital, Mumbai and at Dr. B. Nanavati Hospital. Dr. Prasad Raj Dandekar appreciates need for a compassionate care for cancer patients and need for counselling. He has done basic and advanced counselling courses to help him in making his patients comfortable. He is also an alumnus of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) where he has done his Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Administration (EPGDHA).
