🔬 Advancing Dengue Diagnosis! 🦠

Our study at Paras Pathology, published in the renowned international journal Acta Tropica, confirms that CLIA-based NS1 antigen detection is a reliable and more affordable alternative to RT-PCR for dengue diagnosis. With highly comparable results, this means faster, cost-effective, and accurate testing for better patient care! ✅

Linus Paulin is regarded as one of the founders of the fiields of molecular biology. He worked on the concepts of chemical bonds and electronegativity. This helped in the understandding the structure of important biological molecules, especially protein. His discoverries paved the way for understanding the structure of DNA by Watson, Crick, etc. and many others.

Konrad Emil Bloch received the Nobel prize of Physiology and medicine in 1964 along with Feodor Lynen for their discoveries in understanding the the natural synthesis of cholesterol and fatty acids.

Bloch received a degree in chemical engineering, but is said that due to racism he had to migrate to a new country to pursue higher studies. He later went on to become a professor in Biochemistry in a leading University.

During his research, Bloch discovered that acetic acid was the major building block in many steps of cholesterol biosynthesis. His further studies helped understand the relation of blood cholesterol to atherosclerosis. Since atherosclerosis has touched almost all adults in the world directly or indirectly, we can safely say that discoveries by Bloch have touched all our lives in a significant manner!

Tu Youyou is a scientist and phytochemist known for studying and isolating the antimalarial substance qinghaosu, later commonly known as artemisinin, which is considered as the most effective drug against malaria.

Tu had studied the traditional Chinese medicine by participating in a full time training course on it. During the Vietnam war, when the Chinese were trying to search for a remedy for malaria, Tu along with her team went through the ancient Chinese medical texts and successfully isolated a non toxic extract from sweet wormwood plant (Artemisia annual) that showed effective anti-malarial properties. The active compound of this extract was later isolated and named artimisinin.

In finding this compound, Tu volunteered herself as the first human subject to demonstrate the confidence in this compound. For her discovery which saveed millions of lives, she became the first mainland Chinese scientist to receive a Nobel Prize.

Kary Mullis is credited with the development of the method of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), in 1983. This method allowed the use of tiny amounts of sample for analysis of a gene sequence, by making multiple copies of the original DNA sequence in a short time.

PCR has gained a lot of popularity since its development, and has become the mainstay of molecular analysis. It finds a lot of use in Medical diagnostics, research and forensic studies. Over the years, a lot of modifications have been added, which created different types of PCR reactions that can be put to specific uses.

Louis Pasteur was a chemist and microbiologist and regarded as one of the founders of Medical microbiology. He is credited with many discoveries and inventions which have shaped our lives for the better.

He developed a process called pasteurization for decontamination wine. Today, we use this to decontaminate many of our foods and beverages, especially milk. He also discovered that fermentation could be arrested by passing air through the fermenting fluid. This was called the Pasteur effect.

In the late 19th century, while the medical fraternity was debating the acceptance of germ theory of disease, Pasteur developed the principle of vaccination and laid the foundations of the field of immunology. He first developed the vaccine for chicken cholera. Later, he worked to successfully develop the vaccine for anthrax. These developments firmly established the germ theory of disease, which became the fundamental concept underlying microbiology. Pasteur also developed the vaccine for rabies.
