๐ŸŒŸ I had the privilege of participating as faculty at the Upper GI Disorders Programme organised by the Dept. of Surgery, PCMC PGI Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.

I delivered a talk on โ€œManaging Difficult Hiatal Herniasโ€, a subject that continues to evolve and challenge us as surgeons.

The programme was excellently conducted by the Pune Surgical Society, under the leadership of Dr Prafull Tamaskar, Dr Shivmurti Khandalkar, and Dr Rakesh Neve.

It was a pleasure to meet and interact with colleagues โ€“ Dr Neeraj Rayate, Dr Suprashant Kulkarni, Dr Santosh Thorat (HOD), Dr Jagdale, Dr Godbole, Dr Bharat Diksh*t, and Dr Sanjay Kolte.

The sessions on the basics of anti-reflux surgery and the live surgical demonstrations made it a truly enriching academic experience.

This program helped me see healthcare beyond the operating room โ€” focusing on strategy, systems, and leadership

Iโ€™m excited to bring these insights into my practice and contribute more meaningfully to patient care and healthcare delivery.

Introduction

Dr Prasad Bhukebag is a practicing Consultant Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal, Bariatric & General Surgeon. After completing his MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (Belgaum), he did his Masters in General Surgery (MS) from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore. Thereafter, he pursued his Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS) at Sir Gangaram Hospital,New Delhi under Prof PK Chowbey.

He has also successfully completed MRCS(Edinburgh) and MRCPS(Glasgow). He has completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Law & Ethics (PGDMLE) from the one of top law school in India, National Law School Of India University.

His training in Bariatric Surgery includes Fellowships from E-Da Hospital (Kaohsiung, Taiwan), China Medical University Hospital (Taichung, Taiwan) under Dr CK Huang and AZ Sint Jan Hospital (Brugge, Belgium) under Dr Bruno Dillemans.

He was recently conferred the prestigious Fellowship of American College of Surgeons (FACS) in October 2019.
