Had the pleasure of being part of Robosurge, a fantastic conference on robotic surgery organised by the 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐮𝐣𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲.⁣
⁣
I demonstrated a 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐀𝐏𝐏 for a large inguinoscrotal hernia and spoke on the Learning Curve in Robotic Surgery, followed by an engaging panel discussion with fellow surgeons.⁣
⁣
Though my stay in Surat was just 21 hours, it was truly enriching, filled with learning, great conversations, and warm hospitality. The train journey by 𝘝𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦 𝘉𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵 was comfortable and enjoyable, adding to the overall experience. ⁣

Some surgeries stay with you, not because of the complexity, but because of what they teach you.

I remember one long hernia repair, the kind where your focus never wavers but your body quietly protests. When it finally ended, I checked on the patient, reassured them to rest, to take it easy, and to allow time to heal.

And then it hit me. I hadn’t given myself that same advice in years.

In surgery, we’re trained to stay composed, precise, and resilient. But behind the mask, we’re human, carrying fatigue, worry, and the quiet weight of responsibility.

On this World Mental Health Day, I’m reminded that self-compassion isn’t a weakness. It’s what keeps us steady.

We often remind our patients to rest and heal.
Maybe it’s time we tell ourselves the same.

Because surgeons need healing too, sometimes from the inside out.

Not every success in surgery is measured in reports or scans… sometimes, it’s measured in smiles and simple gestures of gratitude. 🎂

A year after surgery, this patient returned — healthy, happy, and carrying this cake as a thank you. It’s a small moment, but one that touched me deeply.

As surgeons, we often focus on outcomes, techniques, and technology. But moments like these remind me that at the heart of it all is trust, compassion, and the shared journey of healing. I feel grateful to be part of that journey.
