Symptoms of diabetes developing during pregnancy are classified under Gestational Diabetes . Like other types of diabetes, gestational diabetes affects how your cells use sugar (glucose) — your body's main fuel. Gestational diabetes causes high blood sugar that can affect your pregnancy and your baby's health. Complications from pregnancy can be alarming, but there's good news. Expectant moms can help control gestational diabetes by eating healthy foods, exercising and, if necessary, using medication. Taking good care of yourself can ensure a healthy pregnancy for you and a healthy start for your baby. Blood sugar usually returns to normal soon after delivery in gestational diabetes. But if you've had gestational diabetes, you're at risk for future type 2 diabetes. You'll continue working with your health care team to monitor and manage your blood sugar.. A Diwali is festival of light, hope and sweets...!!!

It's almost sinful and impossible to stay away from attractive and delicious sweets around you. However it's not healthy for our diabetic and health conscious friends due to its high calorie intake which further contribute to rise in blood sugar level and weight gain. This festive season you all can strike a balance between fun and food !!! Here's how..

1. Eat less:
Eating in small portions will help you to enjoy throughout the festival without disappointing your host and relatives.

2. Choose wisely:
There are always two kind of sweets so enquire and choose low calories sweets to please yourself.

3. Avoid alcohol and sweetened beverages:
Stay away from alcoholic drinks and cocoa during this season, which shoots up your sugar level due to their high caloric contents.

4. Healthy breakfast:
Breakfast holds the key for all season and sets the tone for the day. So say no to cookies, cakes , breads and butter on breakfast table. Eat sprouted grains and low carb food in handsome quantity.

5. Diminish dinner:
It will allow you to enjoy small servings of sweets fearlessly throughout the day. Choose healthy food sans added sugar or simply be contained with fruits and milk.

6. Prepare your own sweets:
This can be tricky but really helpful . Homemade sweets are always low on sugar and fat which holds the promise of low calories. So surprise the guest and yourself!!!

7. Avoid frequent tea and coffee breaks:
Avoiding 5-6 cups of tea and / or coffee will cut down around 300 calories.

8. Eat low fat dairy:
Eating more calcium-rich food-including low fat dairy product will be helpful to burn the calories and lowers the amount of belly fat.

9. Drink water:
Drinking at least 8 cups (around 2 liters.) may help burn nearly 100 calories a day.

10. Work out:
For youthful festivals one must not undermine the importance of workout. At least 45 mins of daily workout will burn those extra calories and make you fit for the upcoming ones. Even after your workout has ended your body is still burning more calories.

So start working now for the festival called life...!!!
