Soft drinks may be refreshing, but they come at a cost to your dental health. These beverages are highly acidic—thanks to phosphoric and citric acids—and often loaded with sugar. Together, they create a perfect storm for tooth decay.
When you sip soda, acids begin attacking your tooth enamel within 20 seconds. Sugar feeds bacteria in your mouth, which then produce even more acid. This weakens enamel, leading to cavities, sensitivity, and over time, erosion that can't be reversed.
Even sugar-free sodas are not safe—they're still acidic enough to wear down enamel. And darker sodas can also stain your teeth.
So, Limit soft drink intake, use a straw to reduce contact with teeth, and rinse your mouth with water afterward. Your smile will thank you.
