Sthalam 8 is a yoga studio in Mysore, India where a student can experience a complete immersion in the Ashtanga yoga practice. Started by Ajay Kumar, a serious practitioner of yoga since he was 10 and a teacher for the last 17 years, Sthalam 8 offers a range of classes designed to suit both complete beginners and advanced practitioners. The studio Sthalam 8 derives its name for the Sanskrit word for place, the 8 denoting the 8 limbs of Ashtanga yoga. Classes include a Mysore style morning self-practice where Ajay circulates the room giving instructions and making adjustments on students ensuring that everyone practices to their full potential. Besides this, Sthalam 8 also offers an in-depth teachers training program and monthly workshops on Chanting and the Yoga Sutras. Located in Chamaraja Puram (a two minute walk from Laxmipuram) the studio features an Indian fusion cafe and a shaded sit-out where you can browse through magazines and books or just spend the hours in relaxed conversation with fellow yogis. Our classes are a mix of long term resident students who return every year, Indians from across the country including locals who live in Mysore and travelers passing through for an Ashtanga Yoga holiday.
