Shashikala Govinda has been teaching Ashtanga Yoga with her Guru K. Pattabhi Jois for nearly 15 years. She is committed to share the practice in an authentic, yet accessible way.

She was the first woman in India authorized to teach advanced level and deeply honors this classical approach towards the practice as taught by her Guru. She has a gift to adjust postures to the needs of every-body and supports student in their alignment through her vast knowledge and background of anatomy, as well as martial arts and Indian philosophy.

Shashikala has her own intimate studio near Lakshmipuram, where she and her sister welcome practitioners from all over the world to explore the power of this practice in an intimate and safe space.
Entering their home creates an instant impression of the nourishing simplicity of Indian culture.

Diwali — the celebration of light

An excellent opportunity to celebrate our teacher and her incredible and authentic energy and guidance.

We found the ‘three sisters’ Shala, close to the location of the ‘old’ yoga Shala of Guruji Pattabhi Jois …
Shashikalas’ grew up as neighbors of the Jois family and got the opportunity to practice intensively with him for 15 years. In this time she mastered four series and received the blessing to teach.

In the humble Shala, she preserves the method as been taught with deep respect in a humble space that resembles the ‘traditional and intimate Shala’ back in the days. After class, we spend time sharing about yogic life and get truly inspired with her light , knowledge and willingness to share Indian culture with us.

Shala is 10 minutes by Tuktuk from Gokulam, where on the corner of the street you find incredible sweets , treats and chai for a few cents each. Just saying 🤍.

To us, following the inner call to find three sisters Shala (& Shashikala and her sister Hiruni) and practice with her guidance has been one of the most impactful experiences of a decade of practice. A true opening of the heart in the presence of such wonderful family and guide.

We believe this Shala to be a real place and consider it Mysore’s best kept secret. For the love of yoga and from the bottom of my heart … we hope that many students can find their way to her and experience a deepening of their practice alongside the opportunity to learn about mantra, puja and traditions that support the yogic life.

The art of adjustments - the classical way
Through intensive study with her Guruji K. Pattabhi Jois in an intimate setting, Shashikala mastered the tradition of the Ashtanga Vinyāsa system and keeps it alive in her beautiful Shala.

In her 200 hour certified trainings, an emphasize is placed on the art of adjusts , the energetic awareness of Ujjayi Pranayama, Bandha and Dhristi 👁️ is cultivated. Her genuine, humble and heartfelt teachings inspire any beginning and more advanced student to embrace on the yogic path as a lifestyle.

A beautiful pose that supports the practice of pratyahara or sensory withdrawal - one of the 8 limbs- which helps us to explore our inner world with increased peace and calm. Through committed practice, we master the ability to find ease in each pose and the transitions in between.

The power of going inwards and drawing the focus into the inner landscape allows us to unlock the endless wisdom within. In yoga, we believe in the power and potential of the practice to transform the way we engage with challenges …. Not just in the poses, but in all of our relationships and life as a whole.

Ashtanga- vinyāsa yoga as a physical practice is an instrument to translate the essence of yoga into our life… it offers us the possibility to - with time- completely transform body and mind.
We become alchemists of energy, reduce reactivity, cultivate presence and commit to show up in life from our heart and as a loving witness.
