FASTING AND OBESITY
Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduce life expectancy and or increased health problems.
Overweight - BMI between 25 - 30 Kg/m²
Obese - BMI greater than 30 kg/m²
How fasting works?
Fasting can be defined as a total rest, physical, physiological, sensory and mental rest which includes total abstinence from any kind of food solid or liquid that demands digestion, except water for a definite purpose and period of time.
As per the principle, fasting aids in the healing by preserving the vitality. When fasting is done by an obese individual, he/she may reduce weight, as the body starts using the stored fat in the body, at the same time the function of GIT will improve, and there by the digestive, absorptive and assimilative functions of GIT will get enhanced. As a result, when the individual goes back to his normal life patterns, without accepting the life style arrange.
On the other hand, short fasting (2 to 3 days) or intermittent fasting shall be a better option for the obese patients who undergo Naturopathy and Yoga Interventions, to support the effectiveness of the treatments which an individual undergoes.
