APPLIANCES REQURIED IN DENTAL CLINIC DURING COVID19/ CORONA PANDEMIC
Dentistry, labeled as the highest-risk profession in COVID-19 times because of the aerosol spread in the clinic. As a precautionary, due to the corona virus outbreak, most of the dentists are not opening their clinics. They are preferring providing phone consultation and antibiotic prescriptions to their patients. If we start giving physical therapy to our patients, it would be a catastrophic. Suppose a corona virus patient comes to us for the treatment, he or she can infect the whole clinic, and the infection would spread to other patients. Until now there are only some methods of giving physical therapy to dental patients until the virus is fully contained. When physical therapy, like teeth cutting, extraction and RCT, is given to the patient, droplets from their mouth and nose fly in the air that will be very dangerous. “I am receiving frequent calls from my patient.” As the government has been saying, patient in emergency should be treated by using precautions; we were treating emergency patients only.
Now as per the ICMR,DCI and IDA ‘s New Guidelines while conducting dental treatments some appliances must be installed in a Dental Clinic to avoid the spread of Infection and to provide physical treatment. Some of them we already have in our regular use for disinfection and some of them we newly installed for this corona pandemic.
1. ULTRASONIC INSTRUMENT CLEANER-
Dental instruments are small devices. Cleaning them thoroughly can be challenging, an ultrasonic cleaner uses microscopic cavitations to do the cleaning, it can get to those hard to reach areas. This type of unit removes bioburden by using sound waves generated by electrical energy. As the sound waves move through the liquid cleaning solution, they cause the formation and bursting of millions of small bubbles.
2. CLASS B AUTOCLAVE-
Type B sterilizers, also called pre-vacuum steam sterilizers, are similar to gravity displacement autoclaves in that they use steam under pressure to sterilize contaminated items. They have a pump that creates a vacuum in the chamber to ensure air is removed from the sterilizing chamber before steam enters. It kills bacteria, viruses and spores.
3. UV DENTAL CABINET-
Dental cabinets with many shelves are used to store the different dental materials, autoclaved dental instruments and help to maintain a well organized cleaned dental clinic.
4. AIR PURIFIER WITH HEPA -14 FILTER –
High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter in air purifiers are filters that are designed to capture fine dust particles with extremely high efficiency.Air Purifiers are equipped with highest class (H14) HEPA filter in EN1822 type. This standard of HEPA filters in Air Purifier help in removing:
99.97% of dust particles and other small particles even of 0.3 um
99.8% of dust mite f***s, allergens & PM 2.5
5. FOGGER-
Fogging is the most effective way to disinfect a dentist office. The purpose of disinfecting measures is to protect patients, staff and visitors from infections. Foggers offer a high degree of disinfection safety both for the room air and the most hidden corners of the rooms. It works on the basis of hydrogen peroxide and silver ions. It is environmental friendly and leaves no residue behind in offices spaces or on surfaces.
6. ULTRA VIOLET LIGHTS-
Among the various technologies being considered that guarantee total elimination of the virus risk, ultraviolet light (UV-C) disinfection has gained favor due to its efficacy against a broad range of microbial and viral agents found in a variety of environments.
7. INFRARED THERMOMETER AND PULSE OXIMETER-
Infrared thermometers enable you to measure temperature quickly, at a distance, and without touching the patient. A pulse oximeter is a small, lightweight device used to monitor the amount of oxygen carried in the body.
What is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and N95 mask? Does it provide protection from COVID-19?
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is an equipment used by medical professionals. It not only to protect the medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, etc but also helps to contain the spread of the deadly disease. Since SARS CoV-2 can be passed directly from person to person by respiratory droplets, evidence suggested that it is transmitted through contact and fomites. In addition, the asymptomatic incubation period for individuals infected with SARS CoV-2 has been reported to be ~1–14 days. It is reported that live viruses were present in the saliva of infected individuals by viral culture method.
