“UNANI HEALTH DRINKS”

1. Mā’ al-Fawākih (Fruit Juice)
Juice of fruits obtained from crushing them after removing the fruit coat.
Actions:
Muqawwi-i Badan (general tonic)
Muqawwi-i-A‘da’ Ra’isa (tonic for vital organs)
Uses:
Du‘f al-A‘da’ Ra’isa (weakness of vital organ)
Naqahāt Umūmī (weakness/convalescence/debility)

2. Mā’ al-‘Asal (Honey Water)
Pure honey is mixed with water/ rose water or some other liquid and boiled. It is then filtered and used. Sometimes few drugs are also added to it. It is used in brain and nervine disorders.
Actions:
It is used as a Ghiza’ (diet) in initial phase of the management of Amrād Balghamiyya (phlegmatic ailments) such as Falij (hemiplegia) etc.
Uses:
Amrād Balghamiyya (phlegmatic ailments)
Falij (hemiplegia)
Laqwa (facial palsy),
Ra‘sha (tremors)

3. Mā’ al-Sha‘īr (Barley Water)
Barley is soaked in water overnight. The water is then drained and barley is pounded till the seed coat gets separated. This dehusked barley is then boiled in water till water becomes thick and reddish. This water is then strained and used.
Actions:
Mufattih-i Sudad (deobstruent)
Mubarrid (refrigerant)
Munaqqi (remove deranged humours from body)
Musakkin-i-Utāsh (relieve thirst)
Mutawāzin Ghidhā’ (balanced diet)
Uses:
Du‘f al-A‘da’ Ra’isa (weakness of vital organ)
Naqahāt Umūmī (weakness/convalescence/debility)

BACK PAIN RELIEF THEROPY

Low back pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder affecting 80% of people at some point in their lives. It is the most common cause of job-related disability, a leading contributor to missed work, and the second most common neurological ailment. Cupping is used in the treatment and cure of a broad range of conditions; general physical as back pain and mental well-being. This study aimed to evaluate effectiveness of cupping therapy (Al-Hijama) on management of persistent non-specific lower back pain and client disability.
