I am Dr. Amit Bhandarkar. Regards,

Dr. Amit Bhandarkar

I am an orthopedic surgeon with expertise in Spine Surgery and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery currently practicing in the United States. My training has been comprehensive and truly global. I have done my practice and fellowships in the US and Canada, Seoul (South Korea), Maldives and India. As I have travelled across the world I have absorbed diverse cultures, customs and practices. One of the things common among all of them is the immense quest for medical knowledge. Doubts and skepticism about the credibility of the information source makes accessing reliable information a difficult problem. This is further complicated by misinformation by health practitioners to derive personal benefits from their patients. There are websites like Wikipedia which are more or less credible but have endless information. In absence of interaction between the information source and seeker, it is challenging to be able to put practical meaning to all the information available online. If I can say ‘I understand people better’ – what people want, need and would cherish is interaction with authentic credible information source. So guys this web site is a small effort on my side to interact with people who need their doubts related to medicine cleared. Will also be happy to provide second opinion online. And this is absolutely free as right advice is invaluable. I am new to blogging and tweeting. But my objective is to be as helpful and as informative as possible. Needless to say all information pertaining to you or other beneficiaries will be kept strictly confidential. Please email me all your queries. As the website develops further you will be able to upload images and scanned copies of your medical reports, X- rays and other images, investigations etc.

Things to consider before getting – MRI of Spine MRI is the single most important investigation your Spine surgeon needs to diagnose your problem and devise treatment plan. Referrals made to a Spine specialist are usually made after getting a MRI. It is important to know that most of the health insurance companies will allow only one MRI of a particular region to be done in one year. [ 422 more words ]

While practicing spine surgery in different countries, I was amazed how perspectives of physicians differ. If hypothetically, we have to prioritize which symptoms to treat, between neurodeficit (weakness in muscles) and pain in almost all places the former has always won. But it has been a common observation at most of the places that-- the absence of neurodeficit has been used as a rationale to justify inaction even in patients with severe pain. [ 247 more words ]
