If you are in two minds about beginning BLW, read this.
Of course safety is the biggest concern for you, as it should be!
Babies will gag when you are beginning solids. Gagging is a protective airway reflex.
The throat muscles close when the tongue/palate comes in contact with a new or unwanted object and push it forward and out of the mouth.
The same thing happens when food touches a baby's palate or tongue in the initial days of beginning solids.
Gagging prevents choking.
As baby's age and oral motor skills advance, the gag reflex goes deeper down and baby is finally able to swallow food without gagging.
I hope this relieves some of your anxiety.
