Grateful moments like these remind me why we chose this profession.

Recently, I performed cataract surgery on my father-in-law — this being his second eye.
This time, we implanted a PureSee EDOF IOL (Johnson & Johnson), while his other eye has an Eyhance IOL. By planning micro monovision, we achieved 6/6 distance vision and N6 near vision, giving him a high degree of spectacle independence for both distance and near without any glare and haloes!

Operating on a close family member is never routine. It demands technical precision, emotional balance, and absolute confidence in one’s training.Being able to perform this surgery at Ikshan Eye Hospital added a quiet but deeply meaningful sense of fulfillment.

I am deeply grateful to my teachers and mentors who patiently trained us, refined our skills, and made it possible to operate safely and confidently even on our own family. Their teachings truly reflect in moments like these.

Our Preferred Option for EDOF (Extended depth of focus) IOL
The PureSee lens is a new type of artificial lens used during cataract surgery to help people see clearly at multiple distances. It is designed to give sharp vision for far and intermediate activities — like driving or using a computer — while still allowing comfortable reading for many everyday tasks, often with less glare or halos compared to older multifocal lenses. A recent toric ICL case at Ikshan offered a clear demonstration of how accurate planning and controlled ex*****on can translate into predictable refractive outcomes.

Pre-operative refraction:
Right eye: –11.50 / –1.75 × 14
Left eye: –10.25 / –1.25 × 162

Following toric ICL implantation, the patient achieved a spherical equivalent of 0.00 in both eyes — a precise endpoint that reflects proper patient selection, detailed biometry, and stable postoperative behaviour of the ICL.

Sharing this result to highlight what careful planning, accurate biometry, and meticulous surgery can deliver — not perfection every time, but consistently reliable refractive outcomes.
