PILONIDAL SINUS
A pilonidal sinus is a small hole or tunnel in the skin.It is a cyst located in the upper cleft of the buttock above the sacrum.It may fill with fluid or pus or blood.It contains hair,dirts,debris.
Clinical features=>
Intermittent red painful,and swollen mass in the sacrococcygeal region.
Symptoms=>Pain,
Drainage of pus
Causes=>
Friction while sitting,and the growing hair in the buttocks going back into the skin.
Growth of hair
Friction from clothes
Spending a lot of time sitting.
Risk Factor=>
Obesity
Excessive body hair
Prolong sitting
Inactive life style
Male gender
Age in twenties
Development=>
Pilonidal sinus disease is starting from a hair follicle in the intergluteal cleft becoming infected or inflamed.
Conservative treatment
=Shaving the affected region and plucking the sinus free of any hair.
=Antibiotics can be used in septic episode
=Surgery in chronic diseases
How it is diagnosed=>
No specific laboratory studies or test.
