परम पूज्य गुरुदेव का महासमाधि दिवस

7 मार्च, सन् 1952 को परमहंसजी ने महासमाधि (एक ईश्वर-प्राप्त गुरु का मृत्यु के समय शरीर से सचेतन प्रस्थान) में प्रवेश किया। उस समय उन्होंने लॉस एंजिलिस के बिल्टमोर होटल में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में भारत के राजदूत डॉ बिनय आर. सेन के सम्मान में आयोजित एक भोज में एक लघु भाषण देना समाप्त ही किया था।

उनके शरीर छोड़ने के समय एक असाधारण घटना हुई। फॉरेस्ट लॉन मेमोरियल-पार्क के निदेशक द्वारा हस्ताक्षरित एक प्रमाणित पत्र के अनुसार : “उनकी मृत्यु के बीस दिन बाद भी उनके शरीर में किसी प्रकार की विक्रिया नहीं दिखाई पड़ी।…शवागार के वृत्ति-इतिहास से हमें जहाँ तक विदित है, पार्थिव शरीर के ऐसे परिपूर्ण संरक्षण की अवस्था अद्वितीय है।…योगानन्दजी का मृत शरीर निर्विकारता की अद्भुत अवस्था में था।”

गुरुजी ने कहा था...

“मेरा शरीर नहीं रहेगा, लेकिन मेरा काम चलता रहेगा। और मेरी आत्मा जीवित रहेगी। यहाँ तक कि मेरे यहाँ से चले जाने के बाद भी मैं आप सभी के साथ मिलकर भगवान् के संदेश की सहायता से संसार के उद्धार के लिए काम करूंगा।
