DIAGNOSIS: Tinea mannum ( FUNGAL INFECTION ) (RING WORM)
Tinea manuum is a fungal infection of the hands caused by dermatophytes, commonly Trichophyton or Microsporum species.
It typically presents as dry, scaly patches, redness, or itching on the palms or fingers, often affecting one hand more than the other.
It may coexist with tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) due to shared fungal causes.
Risk factors include contact with infected surfaces, animals, or people, and warm, moist environments.
Diagnosis is usually clinical, confirmed by skin scrapings or fungal culture.
Treatment involves topical antifungal creams (e.g., terbinafine, clotrimazole) for mild cases or oral antifungals (e.g., itraconazole) for severe infections. Good hand hygiene and avoiding shared items aid prevention.
