-----------------------------------
A sweet smile welcomes you at her clinic. Meet Dr Nivedita Pawar who carries herself with a grace of Diva and has excelled in the field of gynaecology for the last 24 years. Born and brought up in Aurangabad, she pursued her MD Gynaecology from Aurangabad Medical College. In June she inaugurated the Nivedita Maternity and Endoscopy Centre where she recently introduced the In vitro fertilisation technique. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a process by which an egg is fertilised by s***m outside the body: in vitro. IVF is a major treatment for infertility when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed. An eager learner, Dr Pawar keeps on attending various seminars and lectures in order to be up to date with newer technologies. She informs, “We keep on attending lectures and conferences all over the world to stay up to date with the newer techniques and inventions. Recently we brought hi tech machines imported from US and Germany.”

Dr Nivedita Pawar is like an angel for all those who are the victims of one of the gravest problems that the society is currently facing - Infertility. The society is still not serious about the problem of infertility. What everyone tends to ignore is the fact that women are no more the only victims of this problem. “Not just women but even men are facing the problem of reduced fertility. The stress that men go through at their work places and at times in their family lives are different. Addictions like To***co, smoking and alcohol are becoming a major aspect of their life style. All these factors together attribute to reducing fertility in men as well”, she says. She implies that the trends of late marriage and pregnancy cause infertility. “The trend of late marriages has picked up. Besides, the couples are also delaying their pregnancy. By the time they decide to get pregnant, problems start arising. Most of the couples are facing problems in the initial stages itself”, she adds. The consequences of infertility are manifold and can include societal repercussions and personal suffering. Advances in assisted reproductive technologies, such as IVF, can offer hope to many couples where treatment is available, although barriers exist in terms of medical coverage and affordability. One of the result is acceptance of test tube babies. Dr Pawar informs, “The number of people going in for test tube babies is increasing. Major reason for this is the lifestyle that people are leading. There is lot of stress about the deadly competition in every field.Careers are taking the top position on priority list and marriage manages to just fit in the list at the end. First there is a delay in marriage and later there is a delay in pregnancy. Women actually delay their pregnancies till the age of 30-32 years. By that time, their fertility decreases to a considerable amount.”

No science or cure can solve all the problems. People have to start taking care of themselves and their bodies soon. Importance of family and children should be realised before the problems start. Dr Pawar says, “I think that people should become more family centric. Being career oriented is not bad but family must not take a back seat. They should conceive a child in their fertility period which 24 to 30 years. Most importantly, people should learn how to manage stress.”

About her new hospital she happily tells about the latest technologies and services provided there. She says, “We have many modalities in our hospital like fertility medicines and treatment. We even make use of laparoscopy for diagnosing problems. The major motive is to provide the best services to all the patients.”

Many families advise giving newborns a little honey or water for “better digestion”, but this is a dangerous myth.

Why?:
1. Honey can cause infant botulism, a serious condition affecting babies under 1 year.
2. Water can upset your baby’s electrolyte balance and even interfere with feeding.

In the first 6 months, your baby needs only breastmilk or formula, nothing else. Colostrum and breastmilk already provide hydration, nutrition, and immunity in the safest way possible.

Trust your pediatrician, not age-old myths.

You don’t need to have s*x daily to get pregnant. What matters is having s*x during your fertile window, the few days before and during ovulation - when the egg is ready to be fertilized.

Outside of this time, daily s*x won’t increase your chances.
