*What Are the Benefits of Ginger Water?*

*Benefits*

Overview

Native to Southeast Asia, ginger is common in food and medicine around the world. The ginger plant is rich in natural chemicals that can promote your health and wellness.
Ginger water, also known as ginger tea, is one way to enjoy the benefits of ginger. Read on to learn more about ginger water benefits, uses, and side effects.

*Benefits*

As with a lot of herbal medicine, more research is needed to better understand and prove uses for ginger and ginger water. There are many anecdotes about uses for ginger water that can’t be guaranteed healthy or effective. However, there are several potential benefits backed by limited research.

Anti-inflammatory*

Inflammation is one of your body’s natural self-preservation functions. Germs, chemicals, and poor diet can cause too much inflammation and harm your body.
Inflammation has become a very common experience for a lot of people. Diet and lifestyle changes may be necessary to fight chronic inflammation.
Consuming ginger may help prevent and heal inflammation. One studyTrusted Source found that ginger could reduce allergic reactions, in which inflammation can play a role.
A small studyTrusted Source also showed that people who took daily ginger supplements had less muscle pain after working out. Muscle pain can be caused by inflammation.

Antioxidant*

The antioxidant properties of ginger may help to prevent:
heart disease,
neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s,cancer
symptoms of aging

Antioxidants fight reactive oxygen species (ROS), which cause oxidative stress and damage your cells. Your body naturally makes ROS, but some lifestyle choices, like drinking large quantities of alcohol, smoking, or experiencing chronic stress can make you produce too much ROS. Consuming foods and drinks with antioxidants, like ginger water, can help prevent and fight the negative side effects of ROS.
One studyTrusted Source found that ginger could prevent or slow down kidney failure. Ginger may also slow the growth of tumors, and one studyTrusted Source found evidence that ginger may help control some types of cancer.

Antinausea and digestion aid*

Cultures around the world regularly take ginger to help ease indigestion, vomiting, and nausea. Studies are inconclusive as to how effective this is.

Balance blood sugar*

One studyTrusted Source found that ginger improved fasting blood sugar in people with diabetes. These and other findings show promise that ginger can help treat health concerns caused by chronic diabetes.

Cholesterol*

A recent studyTrusted Source showed that ginger reduced heart disease markers like arginase activity, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and triglycerides in rats give a high-fat diet.

Weight loss*

Ginger water may help promote weight loss when combined with a healthy diet and exercise. One studyTrusted Source showed that ginger suppressed obesity in rats on high-fat diets. And another studyTrusted Source found that men who drank a hot ginger beverage after eating felt more full for longer. Balanced blood sugar can also prevent you from overeating.

Hydration*

This benefit is mostly because you’re taking your ginger in water. Staying hydrated is very important for supporting every aspect of your health. Many of us simply don’t drink enough water each day. Starting your day with a glass of ginger water, or finding another regular time to drink one each day, will help you hydrate.

What exactly is herbal tea and how does it help with immunity?

Basically, herbal tea or age old used synonyms called as Kadha is a herbal concoction that may help strengthen the immunity. It is usually prepared using herbs and spices, including tulsi (basil), dalchini (cinnamon), kalimirch (black pepper), shunthi (dry ginger) and munakka (raisin), etc. According to the Ayurveda, these herbs and spices contain several immunity-boosting properties and other healing compounds.

Apart from giving your immunity the boost it needs to combat infections, it is claimed that the herbal drink can improve digestion and detox the body. The herbs and spices used in this drink can be especially beneficial during allergy season.

*The 51st Anniversary of Earth Day*

Here at The Old Farmer’s Almanac, we believe that nature, plants, and the land are integral to our own health and that individual responsibility lies with each of us.
Earth Day 2021 will mark the 51st anniversary of this holiday. Typically, Earth Day is assigned a different theme or area of focus each year; this year’s theme is “Restore Our Earth.”
Most years, Earth Day events range from river cleanups to removals of invasive plants. With social distancing still in place for many of us this April, Earth Day has gone digital. Virtual events, such as environmental lectures and films, will take place on Earth Day (Thursday, April 22).

*10 Earth Day Activities and Ideas

Celebrate Earth Day by appreciating and respecting the natural world. Here are some ideas to inspire you this year.

1. Support Our Pollinators!

Bring native bees and other pollinating creatures to your garden. One way to do this is by selecting the right plants. Need ideas?

Find a beauty or two from our list of plants that attract butterflies and plants that attract hummingbirds.

Learn more about native bees (the super-pollinators!) and make a native bee house (much like a bird house!).

2. Clean Up Plastic in Your Neighborhood or Local Park

One of the best ways to connect with the Earth is through cleanups! Go on a walk with a trash bag and help to clean up any plastic that you find. Perhaps you know of a nearby ditch that is polluted with trash that needs a spring cleaning! You’ll start to realize that plastic permeates every aspect of our lives. But as the world wakes up to its addiction, just how easy is it to ditch plastic while growing and storing more of our own food? Don’t forget to recycle

3. Swap Out Your Kitchen and Household Products!

Let’s talk about the cooking and cleaning products that touch the food we eat as well as our skin. This year, we’ve discovered a line of kitchen and household products called “If You Care.” Everything’s biodegradable and does not use chemicals or plastic. Think 100% recycled aluminum foil, chemical-free parchment paper for baking, compostable bags made with potato starch, and even vegetable-based inks for their packaging. We love company’s motto: “We care simply because it’s the right thing to do!”

4. Plant a Tree!

We love our trees! They capture carbon, cool overheated places, benefit agriculture, support pollinators, reduce the risk of disease transmission, and boost local economies. Did you know that planting one oak tree brings in more insect and bird species than an entire yard of plants? Talk to your local government about planting more trees and native garden beds in public spaces or consider planting

5. Use Wildflowers and Native Plants

Wildflowers and indigenous species are not only beautiful but also attract native and beneficial insects that improve both pest control and pollination—meaning bigger flowers and bigger harvests. Try to simply add a couple of native plants to your garden each year, and you’ll be amazed at the difference—they’ll bring in pollinators as well as birds!

Happy International Yoga Day

*World No To***co day* 31st May

Every year, on 31 May, the World Health Organization (WHO) celebrates World No To***co Day (WNTD).

The focus of World No To***co Day 2019 is on "to***co and lung health."

Smoking , to***co and gutkha are most commonly seen addictions in Indian society.

There is not a single benefit of consumption of to***co / smoking.

To***co / smoking is implicated as a significant risk factor in many major illnesses like cancers , heart diseases , paralysis, lung diseases, sexual problems and many more.

*Second hand smoking is extremely hazardous for children and pregnant women*. Second-hand smoke exposure at home or in the work place also increases risk of lung cancer in all.

Fact sheets:

1. Globally, an estimated 60 000 children die because of second-hand smoke.

2. To***co smoke is a very dangerous form of indoor air pollution: it contains over 7000 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer.Though smoke may be invisible and odourless, it can linger in the air for up to five hours.

3. To***co kills up to half of its users.

4. *To***co kills more than 80 lakhs people each year*. More than 70 lakhs of those deaths are the result of direct to***co use while around *12 lakhs are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke*.

Treatment is available for to***co/smoking de-addiction. Consult a Psychiatrist/ Psychologist/ Counselor near you at earliest.
*Counselling and medication can more than double the chance that a smoker who tries to quit will succeed*.

*Prevention* is very important. *Educational programs in young age are very important* to prevent to***co/smoking addiction - in schools, colleges, woke places. This can be done in wedding ceremonies / birthday functions or similar social events in your village / town/ city.
