🩸 Tomorrow, 14 November, is World Diabetes Day.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects 1 in 10 adults worldwide. It causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high, because the body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use it as well as it should.

Symptoms of diabetes include:

🚰 Feeling very thirsty
🚽 Needing to urinate more often than usual
👁️ Blurred vision
😴 Feeling tired
📉 Losing weight unintentionally

Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. It is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks itself and stops the body from making insulin.

Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented with healthy lifestyle, such as:

✅ Keeping a healthy body weight
✅ Staying physically active
✅ Eating a healthy diet
✅ Quitting to***co

🤰 Gestational diabetes can develop during pregnancy and happens when the body can’t make enough insulin, causing high blood sugar. Gestational diabetes usually goes away after giving birth.

The best way to detect diabetes early is to get regular check-ups and blood tests with a healthcare provider. Early diagnosis and treatment is key to preventing diabetes complications.

It's International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week.

📈 Lead poisoning occurs when lead builds up in the body, often over months or years. In most cases, lead poisoning occurs through ingestion and inhalation of lead particles.

Lead is a naturally occurring heavy metal used throughout human history in:

⛽ Petrol
🎣 Fishing weights
🎨 Paint
🔋 Batteries
💄 Makeup

🌎 Releases of lead into the environment contaminate our air, water and soil, which can cause widespread lead poisoning.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

👩🏽‍🦰 Breast cancer is the most common cancer globally with around 2.3 million new cases every year. Roughly half of all breast cancers occur in women with no specific risk factors other than s*x and age.

📉 Reducing global breast cancer mortality by 2.5% per year would avert 25% of breast cancer deaths by 2030 and 40% by 2040 among women under 70 years of age.

These objectives can be achieved by:

1️⃣ Health promotion for early detection
2️⃣ Timely diagnosis
3️⃣ Comprehensive breast cancer management
