Abhyanga is a foundational practice in Ayurveda, representing far more than a simple massage. It is a deeply therapeutic, rhythmic, full-body application of warm, herb-infused oil designed to balance the doshas (energies in the body), nourish the skin, and soothe the nervous system.
In a Panchakarma context, Abhyanga is typically used as a Purvakarma (preparatory) procedure. The goal here is to soften the tissues and loosen accumulated toxins (Ama), preparing the body for elimination therapies. When performed consistently, it serves as a powerful preventative health measure to maintain stability and radiance.
