As Conjunctivitis cases spike in Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, here’s an age-old (and scientifically proven) remedy you could try besides taking your doctor’s advice and following the necessary protocol for this infection.
Pure rose water (Gulab jal) 🌹
Rose water has been a part of our culture since time immemorial for several health issues ranging from acne to eye problems to acidity. I remember my mom always keeping a bottle of rose water at home. Its what doctors used to suggest to treat a sore eye back then too.
Simply put, conjunctivitis is an infection that causes inflammation of the transparent membrane in our eye 👁(conjunctiva) and rose water is anti-inflammatory in nature.
Get a pure variety (as there are adulterated ones too) and use it directly into the eye. Just about 2-3 drops 💧 is enough to reduce the inflammation.
Besides that, also take care of -
✔️ changing pillowcases and sheets every day
✔️using a fresh towel every day.
washing hands often, especially after you touch your eyes
✔️avoiding contact lenses till the infection last
✔️avoiding sharing of items of personal use (eg: cosmetics, glasses)
✔️protecting eyes from bright light (wear sunglasses) as conjunctivitis increase photosensitivity
✔️focusing on the intake of probiotics and a diet rich in vitamins A, K, C, B and zinc
✔️ most importantly, avoiding or reducing screen 📺 exposure
While the rampant spread or the extended monsoons (which is thought to be the cause of this spread) isn't in our control, each one of us can focus on things that lie within our circle of control and do that much.

Share it with friends and family who may be recovering from pink eye.
Anyone used rose water for sore eyes? Or heard of it?
