40 lakhs package for breast cancer treatment!

42 year old lady from Chennai, cT2N1M0, ER/PR/HER-2 Triple +ve breast cancer is planned for 6 years 3 months Rx.

6TCHP (Chemo+Immuno)-BCS (Surgery)-RT (Radiation)-11 HP (Immunotherapy)-5 years Hormone Treatment.

In PMJAY (Ayushman Bharat Scheme) same treatment without Pertuzumab (one Immunotherapy) costs 9 lakhs. Thanks to lengthy Rx, cost doesn't exceed the limit of 5 lakhs/year.

A second opinion from Adyar Cancer Centre is what I suggested. Though the 40 lakhs package treatment is standard, the cost is prohibitive.

40 lakh health cover comes at a cost of ₹50,000/ year premium.

This underlined the importance of having screening mammography starting at age 40.

Public health policy of not doing mass screening mammography, for 150 million women in 40-74 age group, has its own logic in India.

But, at individual level one should take a call if not covered by PMJAY or an expensive health insurance.

A South Indian Clinic and a patient from Kosovo (Europe) are the reasons behind starting PAY-W Clinic, my own venture.

European Cancer Patient Coalition, Belgium has published the story of PAY-W Clinic in it's May 2022 newsletter.

The idea of PAY-W Clinic stared in 2012 after reading a story published in "The Hindu" newspaper, one South Indian doctor started a clinic on principle of "Pay As You Like".

Since then I was working on the principle, helping patients. In 2016 a young man from Kosovo, (Europe) suffering from testicular cancer sent a message in FB Messenger for help. All his queries and concerns were addressed. I had witnessed his entire treatment journey, he is cancer free now.

Above mentioned principle and experience shaped PAY-W Clinic. On 2017 valentine's day PAY-W Clinic was born as a not-for-profit entity. As of date patients from India, Pakistan, Iraq, Philippines, Kenya, Ethiopia, Kosovo and Australia were benenefited.

Glad to reveal PAY-W Clinic is now Associate Member of ECPC, Belgium.

ECPC is an umbrella body with over 450 members. It is the largest European cancer patients’ association. Covering all 27 European Union Member States, and many other European and non-European countries, ECPC represent those affected by any types of cancers, from the rarest to the most common.
