We are sharing stories of two NICU graduates born at 27 weeks treated successfully in our NICU and discharged, under the care of Dr. K. Vennela pediatrician and neonatologist.
The baby of Sireesha was born at 27 weeks with a birth weight of 900 gms. Was on a ventilator initially and gradually weaned off to HFNC and nasal oxygen. But became oxygen dependent. We had tried hard and bought the baby out of oxygen. Also had severe fungal sepsis, severe thrombocytopenia, and anemia of prematurity. Multiple transfusions are done for the same. After a 1.5 mon nicu stay successfully discharged at 1.5 kg. Now he is 2.8 kg and 12 weeks post-natal age. Under regular follow-up.
The baby of Mahalakshmi was Born at 27 weeks with a birth weight of 920 gms. The baby was actually abandoned by her biological parents for being a girl baby. But adopted and admitted in the hospital by the good-hearted couple. The baby had respiratory distress and severe sepsis. After a long stay of 1 mon at our NICU we successfully discharged the baby at a weight of 1.4 kg. Now she is 2.9 kg on regular follow-up for immunization and neurodevelopmental care.
