A Note of Thanks from Us All!

To Our Beloved Volunteers - the heart and soul of CanSupport!

It was a volunteer who started CanSupport who used her personal experience as a survivor for a higher purpose.
Volunteers who were the founding members, many who have walked the journey since the organisation's inception.
Volunteers who strategised, planned and put their whole selves and energy in not just shaping the organisation but also bringing all the goodwill through their meaningful work that we continue to reap its fruits till date.

You bring life, energy, and genuine passion to the cause which is rooted in your deep desire to make a difference and belief in the mission. Your great generosity has had a profound and lasting impact on all who have been touched by it. Your presence, driven by selfless support and compassion fosters such a positive and empathetic culture for all of us and the people we work with as well as those who we work for.

You are CanSupport's ambassadors, connecting us with the wider community, building valuable relationships, and extending the reach and impact.

You are our integral partners whose dedication is the living embodiment of the values and culture. You infuse our work with a sense of purpose and humanity that is truly priceless.

Words cannot adequately express the gratitude that we wish to convey. We want to let you know just how much you are appreciated, valued, and cherished. We are lucky to get to work alongside you.

In an article by the Times of India, a new study published in ecancermedicalscience, a cancer journal focused on under-resourced communities, has showed that, 'India has just four palliative-care centres for every 10 million people.' This equates to millions battling cancer, other serious or chronic illnesses and terminal conditions without prompt pain management or support.
For the last 29 years, CanSupport has been striving to bridge the gap and make essential palliative-care accessible to those in dire need having expanded to seven states in the country. We remain committed to providing services free-of-charge to the underserved so if you, or somebody you know, requires assistance or guidance, please free to reach out to us on our Telephone Helpline where Telemedicine advice is also available for geographies outside our operational regions:

Every year, National Cancer Awareness Day is observed in India on November 7th as cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with India recording more than 1.5 million new cases each year. Awareness initiatives are critical therefore, to mark this important day, CanSupport organised a special interaction between Dr. Ish*ta Gandhi and the Day Care attendees which made for an informative Q&A. The session aimed to raise awareness about not just cancer prevention but living with the diagnosis. Furthermore to encourage making healthy lifestyle choices, busting common myths, and promoting proactive lifestyles without any stigmas. The patients and the caregivers surely benefitted from the valuable information shared.

CanSupport- Caring for people with Cancer

We are working towards a caring and supportive society where people with cancer and their families live with dignity, hope and comfort. It is our mission to enable these people to make informed choices while receiving appropriate physical, emotional, social and spiritual support.

Harmala Gupta is a cancer survivor and social activist who has pioneered cancer support services in India. After her brush with cancer, she founded the first cancer support group in India, ‘Cancer Sahyog’ in 1990.

In 1996, she initiated a 3 month pilot project in collaboration with the cancer hospital in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, to bring palliative care to the homes of six patients with terminal cancer along with Ruth Wooldridge, a nurse from the UK. This was the beginning of CanSupport’s home-based palliative care programme.
