We are grateful for all the CanSupporters !

Today, I had the honour of being part of CanSupport’s beautiful initiative, a gathering that didn’t just recognise cancer survivors but truly celebrated courage, resilience, and the human spirit.

Listening to these brave survivors and caregivers reminded me once again that cancer is not just a medical journey; it is an emotional, social, and deeply personal one. Every story carried pain, strength, fear, hope, and above all, an unwavering will to live and heal.

I deeply admire the work CanSupport - Caring for People with Cancer does in standing beside patients and families, offering compassion when it is needed the most. As a clinician, moments like these reaffirm why we must look beyond treatment protocols and honour the people, emotions, and battles that often remain unseen.

To our survivors, fighters and caregivers present today, you are an inspiration. Your journeys remind us that healing is not only about cure, but about dignity, support, and togetherness.

With gratitude and respect,
Dr. Tapaswini Pradhan

CanSupport- Caring for people with Cancer

We are working towards a caring and supportive society where people with cancer and their families live with dignity, hope and comfort. It is our mission to enable these people to make informed choices while receiving appropriate physical, emotional, social and spiritual support.

Harmala Gupta is a cancer survivor and social activist who has pioneered cancer support services in India. After her brush with cancer, she founded the first cancer support group in India, ‘Cancer Sahyog’ in 1990.

In 1996, she initiated a 3 month pilot project in collaboration with the cancer hospital in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, to bring palliative care to the homes of six patients with terminal cancer along with Ruth Wooldridge, a nurse from the UK. This was the beginning of CanSupport’s home-based palliative care programme.
