New Delhi Tuberculosis Centre New Delhi Tuberculosis Centre also State Training and Demonstration Centre (STDC) and Intermediate Reference Laboratory (IRL).

The Institute came into existence on 20th November 1940 as a model TB Centre by an agreement between Government of India and TB Association of India. Since then, the Centre has been involved in all the phases of TB Control and actively participated in every strategy adopted for TB Control in India as a role model. The Centre advocated and practiced use of collapse therapy, nutritional support as the treatment and BCG vaccination for prevention of disease. Laboratory of the Centre has been providing culture and drug susceptibility test facilities at nominal cost to the patients referred from Delhi and neighboring states for more than 50 years. The Centre adopted the RNTCP in our country in 1997. Since then the Centre is participating in RNTCP implementation, first as one of the chest clinics and later STDC and IRL. Recently BSL-3 Laboratory has been established in the Centre and newer diagnostic tests like Line Probe Assay and MGIT system have been introduced for the benefit of patients for early diagnosos of MDR and XDR cases.
