India HIV/AIDS Alliance (Alliance India) was founded in 1999 as a non-governmental organization working in partnership with civil society and communities to support sustained responses to HIV in India. Complementing the Indian national program, Alliance India works through capacity building, technical support and advocacy to strengthen the delivery of effective, innovative, community-based interventions to key populations affected by the epidemic. The organization’s programs focus on those most vulnerable to HIV, with a particular emphasis on marginalized populations including men who have sex with men (MSM), transgenders, hijras, sex workers, injection drug users (IDUs), youth, and people living with HIV (PLHIV). Alliance India was established with support from the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (UK) and is part of the organization’s global network.

Behind Every HIV-Free Child Is a Team That Refused to Give Up.
At just 26, a young agricultural labourer from a remote village in Gujarat was diagnosed HIV-positive during a routine test, right before delivering her baby at 4 AM.
The was immediately started on prophylaxis to prevent transmission.
But the real challenge began after that.
With no mobile phone for follow-up, staying connected was extremely difficult. Still, the CSC team didn’t wait. The team conducted home visits after discharge to ensure continued care.
At two months old, the baby was tested and started on Co-trimoxazole to protect against life-threatening infections.
Then came a major setback: fear of community disclosure and the stigma surrounding led the family to discontinue the baby’s treatment. The infant was marked as Lost to Follow-Up (LFU).
But the CSC team did not give up.
They returned, patiently engaging with the family, listening without judgment, rebuilding trust, and providing ongoing support. When the family later moved to another village, the team reached them and ensured continuity of care.
Thanks to the team’s unwavering persistence and dedication, the child was successfully re-enrolled into care. The Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) process was carried out, and at 18 months, the confirmatory brought the best possible news—the baby tested negative.
This is not just the story of one child; it reflects the dedication, compassion, and consistent efforts of outreach teams who go the extra mile.
The program’s field teams don’t stop at the clinic; they reach out to homes, cross barriers, and walk alongside families to ensure no child is left behind.
Vihaan is a care and support programme implemented by Alliance India in collaboration with the NACO, supported by The Global Fund, to help people living with HIV stay on treatment through counselling, follow-up for the treatment, HIV testing and health services.

Doesn’t Define Him—His Work Does

After 30 years of dedicated service preparing mid-day meals for school children, a man was suddenly dismissed, not due to performance or misconduct, but simply because he was HIV-positive.

What followed was more than just job loss; it was stigma in action. As the sole earning member of his family, the dismissal pushed them into financial and emotional distress.

But his story didn’t end there.

He reached out to the Ahmednagar Care & Support Centre (CSC), where the team acted swiftly. They engaged with school authorities and local leaders, addressed community fears and misinformation, and emphasised his fitness and right to work.

They also launched HIV awareness sessions in the village to spread accurate information and build acceptance.

Thanks to the efforts of both the team and the man himself, he was reinstated with full . A wider awareness campaign took shape.

Today, he is back in the school kitchen, working with and .
