Focused meetings are some of the best platforms to brainstorm and collaborate.
Thanks to Dr.Abhishek Anand Medical & Hemato Oncologist for bringing together pathologists, radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and GI-HPB surgical oncologists at Gastro-Onco Update 2025.
Had the opportunity to moderate a panel discussion on gastroesophageal junction cancers - tumours that span two body cavities and challenge us to think beyond conventional lines. We explored various strategies across disciplines to manage these complex cases more effectively.
Always a pleasure to be part of meaningful conversations that aim to improve patient outcomes.

Watch Your Diet! 🍽️

A major global study (Gastroenterology, 2024) found that over 1 in 5 GI cancer cases are linked to diet.

In 2018 alone, more than 10 lakh cases were due to poor eating habits — double the number from 1990.

🔴 Top Risk Factors:
• Too much processed meat
• Too little fruit
• Not enough whole grains

These three accounted for two-thirds of all diet-related GI cancers.

✅ Small dietary changes can make a big difference.
Eat smart. Stay healthy.

GI Oncology is full of complex problems and we are always looking for better ways to solve them. Conferences offer a unique opportunity to connect with brilliant minds, exchange ideas, and collectively push the boundaries of cancer care.
Oncology Conundrum 3.0, brought together oncologists for meaningful discussions and sharing experiences.
Contributed our experience on the robotic Whipple procedure—a minimally invasive approach to one of the most demanding surgeries in GI oncology, used to treat pancreatic and periampullary cancers. The idea? Less pain, faster recovery, and better outcomes.
Always a pleasure to share and learn.

Did you know? Nearly half of cancers are preventable.
A recent study found that 40% of cancer cases and 44% of cancer deaths are linked to modifiable risk factors — things we can change.
Smoking tops the list, responsible for nearly 1 in 5 cancer cases
Excess body weight and alcohol follow as major contributors
Prevention matters. A healthier lifestyle isn't just good advice — it can be life-saving.
Let’s spread awareness and act.

As clinicians, our constant goal is to improve patient outcomes. In borderline resectable pancreatic cancer, neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery has become the new standard. However, the role of neoadjuvant therapy in resectable pancreatic cancer remains a subject of active debate. It was enlightening and thought-provoking to discuss thi evolving paradigm with Dr. Manas Ranjan Sahoo at the National Conference of the Indian Chapter of IHPBA in Kolkata. It is always a privilege to be part of conversations that challenge conventions and shape the future of pancreatic cancer.

April is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month

As a gastrointestinal cancer surgeon, I've seen firsthand the impact of oesophageal cancer on patients and their loved ones.

Your food pipe could be trying to tell you something.

Persistent difficulty in swallowing, worsening heartburn, chest pain, or unexplained weight loss shouldn’t be ignored.

🎗️ Oesophageal cancer often stays silent until it’s advanced.
But with awareness, screening, and early detection, we can change that.

Who’s at risk?
- Chronic acid reflux (GERD)
- Barrett’s oesophagus
- To***co or alcohol use
- Obesity

🩺 If you have risk factors or symptoms, talk to your doctor.

Endoscopy saves lives. Early detection saves lives!

The Sugary Menace: Protect Your Health!

Did you know that sugary drinks cause diabetes and heart disease?

A recent research paper published in *Nature Medicine* showed alarming facts about sugar-sweetened beverages (like sodas, energy drinks, and sweetened juices). Worldwide, they caused an estimated 22 lakh cases of diabetes and 12 lakh cases of heart diseases.
Even in India, while our traditional drinks are often wholesome, there’s a rising trend of sugary packaged beverages.

Too much sugar can harm your body, leading to weight gain, diabetes, and heart problems.

What can we do?
1. Choose healthier options like water and unsweetened beverages.
2. Limit sugary drinks.
3. Spread the word!
