will be delivering a talk on creative arts psychotherapy for this seminars audience today.

This entire year we have seen the Government of India get more and more involved in the conversation around mental health and the arts.

We (many of the therapists of the country), in turn, have also been learning to understand legal language, writing petitions and having meetings with relevant ministries and agencies to now start systemically shifting gears and working with the country’s leadership to de stigmatise and regulate mental health work.

After 10 years of COGC existing and the various struggles we have undergone, this feels huge. We have constantly been asked to prove our relevance and seen so many talented therapists succumb to the social dismissal of their work. Sticking through it all, to now be invited by government and media agencies to talk about this work, it has been a journey and how.

For mental health week 2022, COGC conducted therapeutic arts based, mental health workshops in Delhi and Bangalore for in their Gurgaon and Gurugram offices. It was rich with art explorations, mental health conversations, fun, laughter and insights. We were grateful that organisations are not only realising the value of mental health work but also understanding that not everyone expresses themselves verbally and the therapeutic arts can be very helpful in exploring what’s happening in our minds.
Our team, comprising of , , .sophia , , , ,
Ideated and designed a custom plan for each setting in consultation with them and then facilitated those experiences which were received well with enthusiasm and curiosity.

These snapshots are from the bangalore workshop conducted by and Madhumita Prashant. If you also want interesting and engaging therapeutic arts based workshops for your organisations, DM us 🌼

*About the Masterclass*
Theme- Hero’s journey: theoretical & practical tool in Drama therapy

This Masterclass will provide participants with an understanding of how to use Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey as a theoretical and practical tool for reflection. The hero’s journey provides a rich and structured way for therapists and clients to identify personal goals and obstacles in the way. The model focuses on accessing internal and external resources as guides in helping combat adversity to realise personal strength. It is a projective technique using structured instructions to help a client create a new, fictional story which can be used in psychotherapy assessment or treatment.
We will emphasise how to utilise the hero’s journey in various formats: moving from visually on paper, to use of objects, and finally into fully embodied and improvised role play. Facilitators will discuss when it is indicated to use one format over another.

Shruti is an HCPC, UK Registered Drama and Movement Therapist, q***r affirmative therapist, theatre artist and a budding comic. She is trained from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London University.

In her endeavour to advocate for the creative art therapies in India, Shruti contributes as a Vice President at the Uttar Pradesh Mental Health Council, Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Join Shruti in exploring terms such as q***r-friendly or q***r affirmative work to reconsider and reflect our heteronormative spaces, assumptions and practices. Instead of simply using the buzzwords of inclusivity and diversity, join us to learn how to initiate and build q***r-friendly and q***r-affirmative practices in our workspaces. The workshop is experiential in nature and Shruti uses elements of theory, her work and life to further our thoughts on how to rethink inclusivity.
