10 Amazing Tips to Get Relief from Joint Pain in Winter.

For many of us, especially seniors, winter may be cozy, but also painful. Many describe winters as cold, tight, achy, and painful. Through various surveys, it has been found that more than 42 percent of people said that during winters, their hip, knee, or back pain triggers up. Due to low temperatures and severe cold, our muscles also lose heat and start contracting. It results in making you feel tight everywhere, including in your joints. This affects your movements and results in severe pain.

The saddest part of winter is people with arthritis suffer the most during this weather. In the human body, joints are the parts where our bones join with the other. These are joints only that allow all the bones to move freely, such as shoulders, hips, elbows, knees. As winter approaches and the temperature starts falling, our body automatically lowers the movement of blood. Thus, the movement of blood in all the parts of our body gets affected, and our hands & feet receive less blood flow relative to the quantity of blood that flows into the heart and lungs.

Joint pain is often considered as the direct result of unusual blood supply in the body. The various organization has conducted corroborative research’s evidence that the cold season increases pain and changes in joint fluid thickness. Some studies have also found that there is a strong relationship between arthritis flare-ups, short, wet, and cold days.

Besides decreasing temperature, there are various other factors also which equally contribute to joint pains. Here are some of the possible types of joint pains one can experience during winters:

Rheumatoid arthritis:

Usually, rheumatoid arthritis affects the small joints that are found in the hand and wrists of the human body. Some people have bumps, which are known as rheumatoid nodules. This type of nodule appears under the skin. Some of the common symptoms are fatigue, extremely tired, lack of energy, slight fever, loss of weight, stiffness, swelling, and pain in joints.

Gout arthritis:

Gout is the most painful form of arthritis, and if left untreated, then it can completely damage your joints. Mostly, untreated gouts may result in the deposition of urate crystals, which forms under the skin in nodules called tophi. When one is suffering from acute gout attacks, he will experience a rapid onset of pain in the affected joint, which will be followed by swelling, reddish discoloration, warmth, and marked tenderness.

Osteoarthritis:

It is the most common arthritis which is affecting millions of people all over the world. It results when the cartilage that normally protects the joints breaks down. Due to this, bones start directly rubbing against each other, which results in pain & swelling. Mostly, senior people suffer from it, but it can also appear in all ages. It is affecting the knees, hips, the base of the thumb, lower back, neck, fingers, and big toe particularly.

Hypothyroidism:

When our thyroid gland stops producing enough thyroid hormones to meet the basic needs of our body, people suffer from Hypothyroidism. Similarly, when our body starts producing excessive thyroid hormone, it is known as Hyperthyroidism. Mostly, women get affected by these types of problems, especially those over the age of 50.
To help my readers who suffer from joint pains during summer, here are a few tips and techniques:

Have a Balanced Diet:

You should be very conscious of your diet. Try to keep it well balanced, add superfoods, oranges, cabbage, spinach, and tomatoes to it. A well-balanced diet is very useful in getting relief from pain in the joints. It is also advised that one should also add sulfur-rich foods to the menu as it helps in reducing joint pain, including knee pain in the long run.

Drink Plenty of Water:

It is essential to stay hydrated always to stay pain-free. Drinking water also helps in improving the health of joints and stimulates the production of synovial fluid. It also helps in reducing joints and encourages the production of new cells in the cartilage tissues. As in winter, most of us stop taking an adequate amount of water. Thus, it results in increasing joint points. Therefore, it is essential to keep our bodies well hydrated during winters to reduce friction between the joint surfaces and reduce joint pain.

Go Under the Sun

Try to soak in as much vitamin D from the sunshine during winters. Every one of us needs vitamin D, and sunlight is the best source. Vitamin D helps in making bones, joints, and cartilage healthy. And, deficiency of Vitamin D results in muscle and skeletal pain.
