DON'T IGNORE AN EAR INFECTION.... Adults and children get ear infections for the same reasons. There is an ear infection called Otitis media, which is an ear infection that occurs when mucosa swells because of cold or other respiratory infection. Adults are known to get fewer infections than children because of larger and more angled tubes. Other ear infections include otitis extrena and otitis interna. In not attended to, an ear infection can lead to permanent hearing loss and problems related to speech and related language development. It is thus important to visit your doctor in case of ear infections and undergo treatment or prescribed medicine by the doctor.

Earache from a cold can range from mild to very painful. Even when the fluid in the ear is not infected, the pressure it puts on the eardrum, can cause throbbing pain.

In most cases an earache from a cold will make it difficult for you sleep well, have fever, and mucus in the nose. Such an earache usually goes away on its own.

Sometimes an earache could be because of an infection of the middle ear. These ear infections are usually sudden and painful in the beginning. That's because the sensory nerve endings in the eardrum respond to increased pressure with pain.

But in most cases, you should visit your doctor and let your doctor help you know what kind of an earache it is to start treatment at the earliest and help relieve the pain.

Be proactive in warding off colds and flu this season! The #1 way to do this is ensuring proper hand washing!

Most cold and flu viruses are spread by direct contact. Someone who has the flu sneezes onto his or her hand and then touches the telephone, the keyboard, a kitchen glass. The germs can live for hours only to be picked up by the next person who touches the same object. So wash your hands often. If you can't get to a sink, rub an alcohol-based hand sanitiser onto your hands.
