Excerpt from Francis Bacon's essay "Of Studies" mentioned in "Koppikars- Clinical Experience of 70 years in Homoeopathy"
• READ - “Neither to Contradict and Confute”
Don’t read just to argue or to prove others wrong. Reading should not be just for the sake of quarrel.
• “Nor to Believe and take for Granted”
Don’t read blindly, accepting everything as truth without questioning. Avoid being a passive reader who just swallows information - Dare to be Wise.
• “Nor to find Talk and Discourse”
Don’t read merely to show off knowledge in conversations or to sound intelligent in social settings.
• “But to Weigh and Consider”
The real purpose of reading is to reflect, analyze, and understand. One must evaluate ideas carefully, apply reasoning, and consider their true worth.
It should be for WISDOM and JUDGEMENT - to form our own thoughtful conclusions.
