You too might have experienced falling asleep while taking any massage, why? Because massage is the most holistic practice of relaxing the body.

As per Ayurveda, one may experience struggle in sleeping because of daily tension, either physical or mental.

The foot has major nerve endings and thus to relax your overall body, one can prefer hot oil massages for relaxing the nerves.

Massaging your feet with warm oil before turning off the lights can improve blood circulation and relax your nerves, reducing tension and ensuring a good night's sleep.

Do you struggle to fall asleep at night? Here are a few tips to improve the quality and quantity of your sleep.

𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩: Track your sleep and set up a regular sleep and wake-up time. Ritualizing sleep time helps you avoid the reasons you find to stay up longer. Over time, you will become more familiar with your ideal sleep window as you get accustomed to this routine.

𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞: Getting enough sleep is related to the amount of caffeine you consume during the day. Caffeine interferes with your circadian melatonin rhythm and delays the onset of sleep if consumed close to your bedtime. Avoid caffeine 4 hours before sleep.

𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐩𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲: While taking power naps during the day can increase alertness, aim to nap for no more than 10-20 minutes as long naps can make you drowsy, and napping after 3 pm can disrupt your sleep schedule.

𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫: Taking a warm shower at least an hour before bedtime promotes the release of melatonin and speeds up sleep. It warms your skin, decreases your core body temperature, and improves your sleep quality.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Keep your bedroom completely dark, as light can affect your sleep-wake cycle. Invest in quality shades for your windows and wear an eye mask if ambient light can’t be avoided. Keep your cell phone away from your bed and on silent mode.

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: Avoid talking about things that can create anxiety or trigger anger, such as a workplace disagreement just before you try to sleep. Instead, schedule your conversations later and get the restful night’s sleep you deserve.

𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐭: Massaging your feet with warm oil before turning off the lights can increase blood circulation and relax your nerves, which in turn helps relieve tension and ensures a good night’s sleep.

Eat fresh! Why is Leftover food stored in the Refrigerator isn’t good for Health?

1.) The nutritional and medicinal value of food, including its vital energy (Prana), evaporates when we store it in the fridge or freezer for a few days.

2.) Ayurveda considers that any food older than 3 days is 'dead' food, in that it is entirely lacking in nutritional content as well as aliveness.

3.) From the Ayurvedic perspective, foods that are lacking in Prana force the digestive system to work much harder which then leads to an overall drop in health and well-being.

4.) Food that is missing Prana also prevents our bodies from transforming it into healthy Dhatus (tissues) and then into the final product of digestion, Ojas (life energy). And when Ojas suffers, we suffer tremendously.

5.) Another important reason not to eat leftovers is due to the loss of taste that occurs when we leave food to sit for too long. Rasa, or taste, is incredibly important to the digestive process.

6.) Old food gradually turns into Ama (toxicity) as it ages and takes on the quality, or Guna, of Tamas, which can be translated as 'inertia.' When you think of it this way, you can literally see how eating leftovers is equal to ingesting the energy of inertia, heaviness, staleness and death.
