A Gen-Z employee texted his boss:
“My Eyes are burning - Won’t be able to work.”
The web flipped out.
Some folks remarked, "Totally lacking professionalism."
Some folks mentioned: "That’s real talk."
Here's the catch - hardly anyone saw it coming this wasn't just some note.
It reflected the mess we’re in when it comes to mental well-being - clear, raw, impossible to ignore.
For years, employees were taught to hide pain:
Pretend everything's okay
Keep going when it feels tough - yet push harder even if tired
Come up with lengthy messages just to show you’re a real person
Forgot to say sorry for taking a break
But Gen Z did something different -
They called out their unease, no hesitation.
No hiding how they felt.
No drama.
No essay.
Just truth.
Psychology claims this is how grown-up feelings work.
Because now and then exhaustion isn't crying... but quiet moments, a blank stare, or just moving slow.
It looks like “my eyes are burning.”
It seems like a frame craving sleep.
Seems like a mind flooded from toxins, tension, strain - maybe just worn out.
Honesty isn't rude. It's just real talk - no tricks, no games.
Voicing your thoughts doesn't mean you're being sloppy.
Taking care of yourself isn't a sign of being weak.
Perhaps this post spread fast, not due to humor -
yet since it brought back a memory most folks overlook:
Offices aren't lacking polished messages.
People feel better when they’re not scared to speak up.
A spot where a worker might speak up,
“I’m not feeling well,”
but the answer’s about understanding, not blaming.
A spot where it's okay to just be you.
Here, downtime matters.
Where mental health matters - no jokes, just focus.
Here's what really matters:
Is Gen Z too direct…
maybe they’re simply the first who’ve dared show how much it hurts?
