I am deeply grateful and truly honored to receive the “Indian Doctor’s Pride Award 2025” and “Humanitarian Excellence Award 2025” from Human Rights and Social Justice, for social service in the field of Ophthalmology.
This recognition shall motivate me to continue serving my patients with dedication and compassion.
It was a privilege to receive this award from Mr. Chunky Panday and specially heartening to share this moment with my husband , who had recently travelled to India from the USA, making the occasion even more special.
My sincere gratitude to God, the organisers, my mentors, colleagues, and most importantly my patients for their constant support and trust.

Traumatic macular hole (MH) is a full thickness defect of neurosensory retina at the fovea after Blunt Trauma. This is the most common etiology of MHs in younger age group compared to adults (MC Etiology- idiopathic). Though traumatic holes have a high spontaneous closure rate, but in this patient (young male), the hole failed to close spontaneously within 3-4 months, so he was taken up for Pars Plana Vitrectomy surgery with ILM peeling with Gas tamponade. There was a good anatomical outcome after surgery (type1 hole closure), but unfortunately it didn’t translate into a good visual improvement, as is the case in injury related Macular holes.
Visual prognosis depends on extent of direct injury to fovea, traumatic neuropathy, associated pathology like commotio retinae, Choroidal rupture, photoreceptor and RPE damage, etc.

New onset floaters need a dilated retina evaluation. While most of the floaters are benign, they could be a sign of sight threatening condition like retinal tear or detachment, especially when associated with flashes, visual field defect (curtain/shadow), or vision loss. DO NOT IGNORE ANY RECENT ONSET FLOATERS - if you are a myopic, there is a history of retinal detachment in the other eye, family history of detachment, or after a recent history of ocular trauma.

Humbled and honoured to be recognised for my work, by stalwarts in the field of VitreoRetina at the Women Ophthalmology Conference this year.
A heartfelt thank you to my mentors, colleagues, and the WOS community for their constant support and above all to my patients, who place their trust in me every day and continue to be my greatest teachers and inspiration 🙏.
