Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP): Not Just Parkinson’s!
Progressive Supranuclear Palsy is a rare neurological disorder that affects movement, balance, vision, and thinking.
It’s often mistaken for Parkinson’s disease, but the cause and symptoms differ.
Key Features
⚖️ Early loss of balance → frequent backward falls
😶 Stiffness and slowness similar to Parkinson’s
👀 Difficulty moving eyes up or down
🗣️ Changes in speech and swallowing
🧩 Cognitive changes – difficulty planning, problem-solving, or controlling emotions
Cause
PSP occurs due to the buildup of an abnormal protein called tau in certain brain cells, leading to cell damage and movement control issues.
