A journey of 100 miles starts with a single step. It has been 10 years since the inception of the Creative Movement Therapy Association of India-CMTAI, which, through its being and doing, has changed the way our country moves and thinks about mental, physical, and emotional health using the gentle yet profound science of creative and expressive movement along with Art-based therapies. Kudos to the power ladies behind CMTAI; Tripura Kashyap, Reetu Jain, Nishtha Agarwal, Preethi Rajagopalan, Aparna Ramkrishnan, Sukriti Dua, and Balakrishnan for a decade of curating meticulous and thoroughly researched events, study papers, and conferences that help all practitioners in the field to grow and learn.

I am ceaselessly impressed with what you all bring to the field; my heartfelt gratitude to you all. My heartiest congratulations to the team and authors for launching the first Indian Journal of Dance Movement and Other Art Therapies in India. Wishing you all continued growth and grace.

I'm sharing pictures of the 10th Anniversary of CMTAI, along with a walk down memory lane of training in creative and expressive movement of my batch (and buddies Prachi Kaushik, Megha Jaju, Jha Hyunhee, Seo, and Mira). To the outsiders, the training setup may look unconventional; the trainees will look like kids playing, but the teachers and trainees know that via play we explore concepts of mental, emotional, and physical health - because play is the highest form of research!

Do you have bad posture? Do you think about improving your posture and find it a challenge? The posture struggle is real!

Posture, much like most habits, is a comfort zone. This comfort makes it hard to break bad postural habits.

Interestingly, change in posture has also shown to cause change in emotional responses. Posture also affects how we feel about ourselves and how we interact with the world.

This is exactly the journey that our client Diya Salil ( mother of Social Kiwi ) undertook and unpacked. Watch the video above to hear about Diya's journey at Movement Matters where she explored posture, movement awareness and the body-mind connection.

Our story

Movement Matters is a wellness initiative dedicated to enhancing the mental and physical well-being of our society by teaching simple things like adopting better posture, using natural breathing techniques and efficient emotional habits in daily life.

Mohita Singh, Founder of Movement Matters, is a Somatic & Expressive Movement Facilitator, dedicated to enriching the physical and emotional strength of people through Movement Therapy programs. She is a certified & registered member with the Conseil Internationale de la danse -CID- France (UNESCO) or the International Dance Council, and Creative Movement Therapy Association of India CMTAI).

She became a movement educator after she lost nearly all ability to move. Having experienced injury-trauma, and losing the ability to perform simple daily, Mohita is the best example of how movement therapy helps mind, body and soul to heal from past injuries. She also believes that with a good physical foundation, emotional and intellectual expression too become richer.

“I came to believe that the art and science of using our bodies and mind should be a part of our everyday life. The challenge was to make the complex science of movement available to the common man.” - Mohita Singh
