He’s a lucky one and so am I. Hard to believe it’s only been 17 months…really feels (finally) that he’s been around for more like 4 years.

Dembe photo dump from today.
He had his parvo shot this morning then we went to the dog park
He’s living his best life and learning that no one wants to hurt him
For a young guy he’s really doing well
Of course there’s the still can’t leave him alone or in a crate but we’re working on it
He is passed out now atop the couch. I think between the heat and the shot he’s had enough for now.
While I miss Morris daily; and I’m sad Dembe never got to meet him, or learn from him; Dembe is definitely doing well and is an exceptional companion who’ll keep getting better. It’s hard to grasp that he’s probably not yet even 2
AND now that we are approaching the tipping point where he will be with me for longer than he wasn’t
I’m so glad
More better and better memories and experiences ahead.
Whoever had this boy before he was found (I think) did some mean things
But he is grasping that he is safe secure and at his forever home
We r grateful and hopeful for all ahead and the opportunities to learn and grow

THESE anomalies were catching on EVERYTHING causing injuries and constant accidents

Not an elective surgery. A surgery to stop the injuries and accidents they caused to Dembe because they are /were WILD hooks.

Doc said that the left one was a little more “connected “ than the right side.

It was a pretty simple dissection
Now healing
I’m hoping the drugs will keep him ZONED out
Gabapentin, trazadone (which I don’t really like—it made morris hyper aware) and rimadyl just for about 10 days for inflammation of both shoulder and lesion/surgery site.

He’s finally falling asleep about 1:40 after meds
He ate so that’s good
He’s kinda grrrrrrrrrrry about being touched but he’s gonna need /supposed to not jump assistance to get on and off things

THAT’s gonna be fun

I have a help em up harness from another babe I might see if it fits him💖💓💖♥️😢🙏🏻

Well…..
Tomorrow Dembe is having those pesky double dew claws in the rear of both feet removed
We consulted with an orthopedic surgeon today and I really do think it’s the best option for the long haul
We r keeping the front ones intact because they’re manageable

He also has a pulled shoulder and it’s probably a soft tissue injury but I wanted to get it assessed.
So to keep healing “neat” he’s having the few claw surgery and shoulder rest for 2 + weeks (rest????? Omg)
Drugs. (For HIM not me!)

Pls send prayers for an easy simple uncomplicated procedure tomorrow am

Other than Morris’s multiple tooth extractions I’ve never had a dog/pet need/get surgery
It should be a pretty simple dissection and removal process

It’s a good thing for short and long term for not getting stuck in stuff or cracked and WAY less stress and anxiety for us both because he hates his nails being handled.

I’m not 💯 certain WHY but he’s TOTALLY TUCKERED OUT! We did a home yesterday (rather slowly) and just a few walks today (it’s cold ) and he is ZONKED
Notice the on the top of the couch with legs flanking my shoulders; the eternal hug
I love this boy. He’s so very sweet and sometimes also very opinionated lol

Unfiltered first New Year’s Day together
Walkies workouts snackies and now baking a loaf of gluten free bread 🥖
Didn’t sift hope I don’t regret that.
Happy 2024 to peaceful days like this and more of what we LOVE to do in store.

Handsome Dembe💝🥰 in his favorite outfit (haha none!) He’s finally really starting to realize that this is his forever home and I’m so excited to keep him happy and continue our training to allow him to have fun and be the best companion I can count on to take everywhere and be the best behaved boy ever
His e-collar is wonderful and he responds to a “beep” which is fabulous
MANY years ago I used an old fashioned e-collar to work with my Shepard/std poodle mix and NOW (30+years later) have a MUCH better understanding of both dog behaviors (still learning) and training by leading
Oh yeah this was just supposed to be a nakey shot for hahaha
